  • J. Jill to open at Spotsylvania Towne Centre

    Fredericksburg, Va. -- Youngstown, Ohio-based Cafaro Co. said that J. Jill will open a new store at Spotsylvania Towne Centre. The 3,700-sq.-ft. location is slated to open in July at The Village at Towne Centre, between Firebirds Wood Fired Grill and Cache.  

    J. Jill will join The Buckle, opening April 25, and Chico’s, which is expected to open May 1.

  • Buckle to open at Golden Triangle Mall

    Denton, Texas -- The MGHerring Group and Cencor Realty Services said that The Buckle will open a store at Golden Triangle Mall, located in Denton, Texas.

    Buckle will occupy 5,040 sq. ft. and will open in fall 2013. In addition, the list of new tenants includes food court eateries Italia Express, Tobu Oriental Eatery and Smoothie Paradise.

    New York -- L.Brands, parent of Victoria's Secret, reported better-than-expected 3% sales in same-store sales for March. Zumiez Inc. and Buckle Inc. also both reported better-than-expected numbers.

    But other retailers were hampered by a colder-than-normal March, which caused many shoppers to put off buying warmer-weather clothing, and an early Easter. At The TJX Companies, same-store sales fell 2% in March, a bigger drop than was expected.

  • Buckle Q4 net income rises 9%

    Kearney, Neb. -- The Buckle said that its fourth-quarter net income increased 9%, topping Wall Street expectations.

    For the quarter ended Feb. 2, the retailer earned $61.4 million, up from $56.1 million in the same quarter last year.
           
    Net sales for the 14-week quarter ended February 2, 2013 increased 7% to $360.6 million from net sales of $337.1 million for the prior year 13-week fiscal quarter ended January 28, 2012. Same-store net sales for the quarter were flat.
     

  • Sales and income up at The Buckle

    KEARNEY, Neb. — The Buckle announced that net income for the fiscal quarter was $61.4 million, or $1.29 per share ($1.28 per share on a diluted basis), compared with $56.1 million, or $1.19 per share ($1.18 per share on a diluted basis) for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011. Net income for the fiscal year was $164.3 million, or $3.47 per share ($3.44 per share on a diluted basis), compared with $151.5 million, or $3.23 per share ($3.20 per share on a diluted basis) for the fiscal year ended January 28, 2012..

  • Modest gains for retailers in February, led by Costco and Limited Brands

    New York -- Costco Wholesale Corp., Limited Brands and TJX Cos. on Thursday reported better-than-expected sales for February, as growing employment and a surging stock market apparently offset the impact of higher taxes. (Some analysts cautioned, however, that the monthly figures have become less influential as an economic indicator as the number of retailers reporting on a monthly basis has dropped considerable. As of this month, Target and Kohl’s are no longer reporting monthly sales.)

  • Retail sales results mixed in January

    New York -- Although there were some surprising gains among retailers in January, for the most part results were expectedly mixed, as consumers took a hit on their take-home pay from higher payroll taxes but cooler weather gave a boost to others.
