Cleveland gets its first Dick’s House of Sport
Cavaliers center Evan Mobley and Browns cornerback Denzel Ward were on hand to welcome fans and mark the occasion of a singular athletic event in the Greater Cleveland area: the opening of its first Dick’s House of Sport.
The two-level, 100,000-plus-sq.-ft. store occupies the former Sears space at SouthPark Mall in Strongsville, Ohio, which Spinoso Real Estate Group bought from the department store chain when it acquired SouthPark in 2023.
“Dick’s House of Sport is a game changer for SouthPark Mall and the Cleveland market and sets a new standard for experiential retail,” said Carmen Spinoso, founder and CEO of Spinoso REG. “This concept has proven success in the industry as a destination that increases foot traffic, travel distance, dwell time, and annual visits.”
Dick’s closed its former 55,000-sq.-ft. store at SouthPark to introduce House of Sport to the market. It is the chain’s 35th House of Sport location.
Spinoso REG acquired the mall with a plan to elevate it to a position as a regional destination, and it has been very busy trying to achieve the goal. Since taking over at SouthPark, the Syracuse-based operator of more than 100 malls and large-scale retail projects has:
- Signed 31 new leases with prominent brands across retail, dining, and entertainment;
- Reimagined the North Main streetscape, adding restaurants such as Hooley House, Kpot, and Kyuramen;
- Performed parking lot rehabilitation, roof replacement, and added new sidewalks at the North Main entrance, and
- Reconfigured the previous OfficeMax large-box space to accommodate new tenants Activate Games and Boot Barn.
“SouthPark Mall is a great example of how a mall thrives in today’s retail landscape if it has the right tenant mix, creative community events, and management team,” Spinoso said. “The addition of Dick’s House of Sport will benefit the entire ecosystem of the property.”
Dick’s House of Sport’s two other Ohio locations are in Columbus and Dayton.
