Canada Goose to close U.S. stores on Election Day

Canada Goose Holdings Inc. is shuttering its stores in the U.S. on Nov.3 to make sure its employees have time to vote.

The outerwear retailer said all store staff will be given the day off — with pay — to “exercise their right to vote.” In explaining the decision to go dark, president and CEO Dani Reiss said that “for many reasons you may face obstacles casting your ballot. I don’t ever want the people at Canada Goose to have to choose between getting to work and getting to vote.”

“I want to remove barriers, wherever and whenever I can, so you can be a full participant in the democratic process,” Reiss stated. “It’s that important to me.”

Canada Goose is a member of Time to Vote, a non-partisan organization that is focused on ensuring that workers have the time and the tools they need to vote.

More than in previous years, retailers across the board, from Nordstrom to Old Navy to Foot Locker  have launched voting-related initiatives and programs to ensure its employees have time to vote.  Some retailers, such as Lululemon, are closing stores early on Election Day, while others, including J.Crew Group and Patagonia are going dark similar to Canada Goose.
