C-Suite Moves: February recap

Only 20% of C-suite executives think their own boards are diverse enough.

Here’s a look at the major C-suite appointments that occurred during the month of February (starting with the most recent).

•Walgreens Boots Alliance named Manmohan Mahajan as executive VP and global CFO. He has served as interim CFO since July 2023. Elizabeth Burger was appointed executive VP and chief human resources officer. 

•Richard Galanti, the longtime CFO of Costco Wholesale Corp., is stepping down, effective March 15, but will remain with the company through January 2025 in an advisory role. Costco named Gary Millerchip, currently finance chief of The Kroger Co., as executive VP and CFO, also effective March 15. Kroger named Todd Foley, group VP, corporate controller and chief accounting officer, as interim CFO.

•Women's shapewear and apparel brand Spanx appointed Caroline (Cricket) Whitton as CEO, promoting her from president and chief growth officer. She succeeded Kim Jones, who left in July.

• Batteries Plus promoted chief franchising officer Joe Malmuth to chief development officer.

•Deckers Brands, parent company of Ugg, Hoka, Teva, Sanuk and other brands, tapped veteran footwear retailer Stefano Caro as its next chief executive, effective Aug. 1.

•The parent company of Ugg, Hoka, Teva, Sanuk and other brands said that Dave Powers will retire as president and CEO, effective Aug. 1. He will be succeeded by Stefano Caro, who currently serves as Deckers’ chief commercial officer (CCO).

• Tony Spring officially took the helm as chief executive and chair-elect of Macy’s, Inc. on Feb. 4.

•Ross Stores promoted Karen Fleming to president and chief merchandising officer of DD’s Discounts, effective April 1. She is currently group executive VP of merchandising, DD’s.

•Helena Helmersson, the CEO of Hennes & Mauritz and a 26-year company veteran, stepped down as CEO.  She was succeeded by Daniel Ervér, who most recently served as head of H&M, the largest brand within the H&M group.
