  • Zumiez profit rises 25% in Q4, beats Street

    Everett, Wash. -- Teen retailer Zumiez Inc. reported Thursday that profit for the fourth quarter increased 24.9% to $18.7 million, from $15 million a year earlier, boosted by better margins.

    Revenue rose 18% to $183.9 million, edging Wall Street’s expected $183 million in revenue.

    The company has now surpassed analyst estimates for four quarters in a row.

    YONKERS, N.Y. — After three consecutive months of improvement, the Consumer Reports Index for March slipped to 46.1, from 49.6 last month.

    March's Consumer Reports Index measures overall consumer financial health and showed that the confidence of the American consumer is waning.

    Further challenging consumer confidence, The Trouble Tracker Index increased slightly this month to 52.2 from 49.1 in February, and is now at its highest level since August 2011.

  • Stage Stores Q4 profit edges up 2%

    Houston -- Stage Stores Inc. reported Tuesday that profit for the fourth quarter rose 2% to $32.7 million, from $32 million a year earlier.

    Revenue increased 6% to $479.1 million from $453.7 million, beating Wall Street's $468.2 million forecast.

    For the year, Stage Stores reported net income of $31 million, down from $37.6 million in the prior year. Annual revenue climbed 3% to $1.51 billion.
     

  • Casey's profit surges 30% in Q3

    Ankeny, Iowa -- Casey's General Stores Inc. reported Monday that profit for the third quarter rose 30% to $16.7 million, from $12.9 million a year earlier. Casey's revenue rose from $1.37 billion to $1.58 billion.

    Both figures missed Wall Street estimates.

  • Genesco Q4 income beats expectations

    Nashville, Tenn. -- Footwear retailer Genesco Inc. said its fourth-quarter net income from continuing operations rose to $41.5 million from $31.4 million a year ago. Its results easily topped Wall Street expectations.

    Revenue in the quarter rose 29% to $723 million. Same-store sales increased 12%. By brand, same-store sales were up 13% at Lids Sports Group and 14% at the Journeys Group. Johnston & Murphy Retail’s sales increased by 8%, and Underground Station decreased by 4%.
     

  • Ascena Retail Group Q2 profit up 50%; opening 125 stores in fiscal 2012

    Suffern, N.Y. -- Ascenta Retail Group Inc., whose brands include Dressbarn, Maurices, and Justice, said its fiscal second-quarter profit rose 50% on higher sales. The company raised its earnings forecast for the current fiscal year.

    Ascena said that during the quarter ended Jan. 28 it earned $63.7 million, compared with $42.5 million in the same period a year before.

    Revenue during the quarter rose 15% to $862 million. E-commerce sales jumped 61% to $52 million in the quarter.
