  • Dickey’s Barbecue opening seven new locations

    Dallas — Dickey’s Barbecue will open seven new locations this week — in Kent, Wash.; Richland, Miss.; Vienna, Va.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Clinton Township, Mich.; Yonkers, N.Y.; and Dallas.

    The fast-growing 391-unit restaurant chain has added more than 200 stores in the past two years. There are more than 150 stores in development.

     

  • Three new tenants for Tempe Marketplace

    Tempe, Ariz. — DSW, Nordstrom Rack and Total Wine & More have leased space at the 1.3 million-sq.-ft. Tempe Marketplace in Tempe, Ariz.

    DSW will open a 20,000-sq.-ft. store in mid April. Nordstrom Rack plans to open a 35,000-sq.-ft. store in October. Total Wine & More, the largest independent fine wine retailer in the country, will occupy 20,000 sq. ft. and plans to open in October.

  • Maurices opens 900th store

    Maurices is marking a major milestone. The retailer, which started small in downtown Duluth, Minn., has opened its 900th store in Fresno, Calif.

    And the retailer is not stopping there. Plans are in place to open 60 additional stores for a total of more than 925 stores in 46 states and Canada by July. Maurices is also remodeling or expanding 80 stores this year to keep the chain fresh.

    The company's long-term goal is to reach more than 1,200 stores domestically and 100 stores in Canada.

  • Maurices opening 60 stores in 2014

    Duluth, Minn. -- Ascena Retail Group, parent to the Maurices, DressBarn and Lane Bryant banners, announced the 900th Maurices store opening. The Fresno, Calif., store will officially open later this month, joining 899 other stores in the U.S. and Canada.

    Maurices will open 60 new stores by the end of its fiscal year in July 2014. In addition to new store openings, Maurices is remodeling or expanding 80 stores this year.  

    The company's long-term goal is to reach over 1,200 stores domestically and 100 stores in Canada.

  • Cheesecake Factory, H&M to Fayette Mall in Lexington, Ky.

    Chattanooga, Tenn. — The Cheesecake Factory and H&M will open at Fayette Mall in Lexington, Ky., as part of a redevelopment by owner CBL & Associates Properties.

    The redevelopment will renovate a former Sears store and expand the mall entrance to create 115,000 sq. ft. of new retail space for a mix of fashion and home furnishing stores and restaurants. Construction has begun, and CBL expects the work to be completed this fall.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods to open two new stores

    Pittsburgh — Dick’s Sporting Goods has announced the opening of two new stores, one in Wauwatosa, Wis., and the other in Daly City, Calif.

    The Wauwatosa location will be Dick’s 8th store in Wisconsin and its 562nd nationwide. The Daly City location will be the 33rd California store and its 563rd in the U.S.

     

  • Walgreens posts mixed results for Q2

    Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreens on Tuesday reported a profit of $754 million for the second quarter, down from $756 million in the year-ago period, amid lower sales of generic drugs. The retailer also said it will close 76 locations in the second half, although it plans to increase its total store count by 55 to 75 by the end of the year.

    Sales for the quarter ended Feb. 28 rose 5.1% to $19.6 billion, beating expectations. Prescription sales, which accounted for 62.2% of sales in the quarter, increased 7.0%.

  • Five Below sees improving trends in challenging fourth quarter

    A severe winter may have affected sales results for many retailers, but Five Below saw improving trends as it weathered the fourth quarter.

    Net sales increased by 22% to $212 million from $173.6 million in the prior-year quarter, which consisted of 14 weeks. Comparable-store sales increased by 0.3% on a 13-week basis.

    The company ended the quarter with 304 stores in 19 states, an increase of 25% from the end of the prior-year quarter.
