    Dallas -- SRS Real Estate Partners has named Kevin Boyd as senior VP and co-market leader in the Chicago office. Experienced with local, regional, and national retailers, he will focus on tenant representation while jointly leading the Chicago team.

  • Whole Foods Market continues expansion in Western Canada

    Bellevue, Wash. -- Whole Foods Market announced its plans for continued expansion in Western Canada with three new locations: Greater Victoria, British Columbia; Edmonton, Alberta; and Calgary, Alberta.

  • Report: Sycamore pursues $3 billion Chico’s deal

    Fort Myers, Fla. – Chico’s FAS Inc. may be the next big-name retailer to undergo an acquisition. Private equity firm Sycamore Partners is reportedly pursuing a $3 billion acquisition of the specialty women’s apparel retailer.

    According to Reuters, Sycamore already has an agreement in principle to acquire Chico’s, contingent upon obtaining financing. However, Sycamore may be having difficulty finding a bank or banks willing to allow as much debt as the company is looking for.
     

  • Simon to rebrand Livermore Premium Outlets as San Francisco Premium Outlets

    Livermore, Calif. -- Simon announced that its Bay Area outlet shopping center, Livermore Premium Outlets, will be rebranded and named San Francisco Premium Outlets in conjunction with a major expansion.

    The 512,000-sq.-ft. center is located in the affluent East Bay area of northern California and features 130 designer and name brand outlet stores, including Armani, Barneys New York, Bloomingdale's Outlet, Burberry, Cole Haan, DKNY, Elie Tahari, Kate Spade New York, Last Call by Neiman Marcus, Polo Ralph Lauren, Prada and Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th.

  • DDR Corp. elevates CFO to CEO job

    DDR Corp.'s board of directors has promoted David Oakes to the chief executive officer post.

    Oakes, the company's president and chief financial officer, fills a seat left empty by Daniel Hurwitz, who stepped down as CEO in December.

    "After a thorough and robust search process, the board is confident that David is the right person to lead DDR into the future," Terry Ahern, the company's chairman, said. "I also want to thank the team for the terrific job that they have done while the board conducted the search process."

  • Next Realty acquires Shops at Flint Creek from Hamilton Partners

    Chicago -- Transwestern’s Chicago office has brokered the sale of The Shops at Flint Creek. Located at 500 N. Hough St. in Barrington, Illinois, the 59,325-sq.-ft. center was developed in 2006 by Hamilton Partners. Next Realty LLC purchased the Heinen’s grocery store-anchored center for an undisclosed amount.

    In addition to Heinen’s, tenants include Meatheads, Alexian Brothers Health System, Coldwell Banker, Athletico and Scottrade.

  • H&M, other new stores heading to Eastwood

    Niles, Ohio -- Major changes are in store for the retail lineup at the Eastwood Mall Complex, a Cafaro Company shopping center in Niles, Ohio. H&M will open a new 20,000-sq.-ft. store on center court by early fall. Everything Buckeyes, which currently occupies that space, will move to its new location in the Sears Concourse, reopening in mid-March.

  • Retail Rap: Hitting the Streets

    One of the interesting retail real estate trends I’ve been seeing pick up steam in the last couple of years is the willingness of many retailers to look beyond the traditional mall locations. Many are choosing locations on “hot streets,” bustling avenues within major communities that happen to be the retail hub, or in the downtown/village center area of the market.
