  • Sears Holdings swings to profit in Q1, to spin off minority stake in Sears Canada

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings Corp. reported Thursday that it generated a profit of $189 million for the quarter ended April 28, after losing $170 million in the same period last year. The improvement was due largely to a $233-million gain from selling off some of its stores.

  • Zumiez records record Q1, 50 stores on tap for 2012

    Everett, Wash. -- Action sports retailer Zumiez Inc. reported Thursday that profit surged 140% to $4.5 million for the quarter ended April 28, compared with $1.9 million for the year-ago period.

    Revenue rose 22.7% to $129.9 million from $105.9 million, and same-store sales climbed 12.9%.

    The company said it plans to open 50 stores in fiscal 2012, including up to 10 locations in Canada.
     

  • Save-A-Lot arrives in Atlantic City

    ST. LOUIS — Supervalu is bringing its Save-A-Lot banner to Atlantic City, N.J.

    The store, which opened Thursday, will become the first full-service grocery store within a 21-mile radius of the city, the company said. The Atlantic City location is the 11th Save-A-Lot store in New Jersey.

  • Ross profit rises 21% in Q1, increases long-term store growth outlook

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Ross Stores reported Thursday that net income for the first quarter surged 21% to $208.6 million, from $173 million in the same period last year.

    Sales increased 14% to $2.4 billion, and same-store sales rose 9%.

    “We believe that favorable weather across many of our markets also contributed to our above-plan performance," said Michael Balmuth, CEO, about the results.

  • Divaris to lease, manage Marquis in Williamsburg, Va.

    Williamsburg, Va. -- Divaris Real Estate announced it has been appointed the exclusive leasing and management firm for The Marquis, located in Williamsburg, Va.

    The Marquis is a 750,000-sq.-ft., regional power center. At its completion, The Marquis will be the largest retail development in Williamsburg, featuring specialty retailers and restaurants and several big-box retailers including Target, Kohl’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Best Buy and J.C. Penney.

  • CBL, Horizon break ground on second phase of Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City

    Chattanooga, Tenn. -- CBL & Associates Properties and Horizon Group Properties said Tuesday that construction will begin immediately on the second phase of The Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City.

    The 28,000-sq.-ft. expansion is scheduled to open in November and will bring Columbia Sports, Ann Taylor Loft, Waterford, Kenneth Cole, Lucky Brand and more to the center.

    Greensboro, N.C. -- Tanger Outlets said Tuesday that the multi-million-dollar renovation of its newly acquired Ocean City property is nearing completion, with an unveiling slated for the end of May.

  • Talbots, Sycamore extend exclusivity agreement

    Hingham, Mass. -- The Talbots and Sycamore Partners extended the exclusivity period for the private equity firm's non-binding $214.6 million takeover offer to May 22.

    Talbots had entered into an exclusivity agreement with Sycamore on May 5, which was due to expire on May 15.
