  • Ritz Camera files for bankruptcy; to close 128 stores

    New York -- Ritz Camera & Image has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. As part of its restructuring, the company, which has 265 stores in 34 states, plans to close 128 locations and cut its staff of 2,000 in half.

    This is the second time Ritz has sought protection under the bankruptcy laws, having emerged from Chapter 11 two years ago.

  • Report: Microsoft to make Canadian retail debut

    New York -- Microsoft Corp. will open its first retail location in Canada at the Yorkdale Mall, the Star reported.

    Apple has 23 stores across Canada, including a location at Yorkdale.

    The report cited building permit notices which revealed Microsoft has been approved to build a store in Yorkdale center.
     

  • Regency Centers to develop new Seattle community shopping center

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Regency Centers announced it will construction of Grand Ridge Plaza, a 280,113-sq.-ft. shopping center, anchored by market-dominant grocer Safeway, on 24.58 acres.

    Located in the heart of Issaquah Highlands, a master-planned community east of downtown Seattle, Grand Ridge Plaza will be the only major retail center to serve the community and is projected to draw shoppers from around the region.  

  • Nordstrom Rack to open in new center in El Paso, Texas

    Seattle -- Nordstrom said it will open a Nordstrom Rack at The Fountains at Farah, a new power and lifestyle shopping center in El Paso, Texas. The store will be approximately 35,000-sq. ft. and is scheduled to open in the fall 2013.

    The Fountains at Farah, with over 600,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurant space, is being developed and managed by Centergy Retail LLC, Dallas.

  • Schimenti Construction tapped to build new Victoria’s Secret

    Ridgefield, Conn. -- Victoria’s Secret has selected Schimenti Construction to build its store located in the Quaker Bridge Mall, Lawrenceville, N.J.
     
    Construction of the 13,500-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to begin mid-June and is scheduled for completion in October. The architect for the project is Fitch, Scottsdale, Ariz.
     

  • Sports Authority to open in former Mervyn’s space

    Santa Fe, N.M. -- Fort Worth, Texas-based Trademark Property Co. said that Sports Authority will open a new store at Santa Fe Place mall in Santa Fe, N.M.

    The 40,000-sq.-ft. store will open in a vacated Mervyn’s anchor space at the center. Construction is slated to launch in October with opening planned for spring 2013. It will be the second Sports Authority in New Mexico; the other store is located in Albuquerque.

  • The Children’s Place to open in Arab Gulf States

    Secaucus, N.J. -- The Children’s Place announced that it has signed a 10-year franchise agreement with Apparel Group to open stores in the Arab Gulf States of United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. The first stores are scheduled to open in the UAE in September in Dubai and Sharjah.

  • Easton Town Center expansion, Columbus, Ohio

    A trailblazing town center is getting more space and a cosmetic update.

    Easton Town Center (Columbus, Ohio) co-developers Steiner + Associates and The Georgetown Co. have announced that they will be adding more than 50,000 sq. ft. of new tenants this year and renovating more than 150,000 sq. ft. of existing space.

    “Great projects evolve on purpose,” said Yaromir Steiner, CEO, Steiner. “Our vision for Easton has been, and continues to be, to challenge ourselves to make it better every day.”
