The challenge of spearheading Target’s entry into Canada will be handled by Tony Fisher. He was named president of Target Canada last week in a brief press release that offered little detail on his background or qualifications to lead the company’s efforts to open between 100 and 150 stores beginning in 2013. Here’s what Target had to say about Fisher.

Beachwood, Ohio -- Developers Diversified Realty Corp. announced a new gift-card partnership with MasterCard Worldwide in Puerto Rico.

The MasterCard program, called the Isla Plus Card, represents an extension of a significant, long-term partnership between the two companies in Puerto Rico. The Isla Plus Card is designed to promote even greater acceptance among merchants and consumers, and provide the flexibility consumers demand in gift-card programs.

Dallas -- J.C. Penney on Monday unveiled a restructuring plan, which includes close five department stores and one home store, because they are no longer profitable enough. The retailer named William Ackman to its board after the activist investor became its biggest shareholder

Mechanicsville, Va. -- Sleepy’s the Mattress Professionals has opened a new, 8,720-sq.-ft. store at Hanover Square, located in Mechanicsville, Va.

The shopping center is owned by Centro Properties Group, based in New York City.

Las Vegas -- Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers said it has leased 3,000 sq. ft. of retail space in Las Vegas, at Centennial Crossroads Plaza to Sprint.

The store is slated to open in June.

The 105,414-sq.-ft. shopping center is anchored by a 55,256-sq.-ft. Vons.

Princeton, N.J. -- NAI Global said it has named Art Carll as senior VP for the commercial real estate firm.

Carll previously served as the executive managing director of NAI Las Vegas and regional manager for the Western Region for NAI Global.

Carll will be focused on business development and service delivery with NAI Global’s Special Asset Solutions and Corporate Solutions groups in the West, as well as supporting NAI members throughout the Western region.

San Jose, Calif. -- Grubb & Ellis Co. announced that Robert Cook has joined the company as senior VP corporate services, based in the company’s San Jose office. 

Rochester Hills, Mich. -- Emagine Theatres has opened a 47,884-sq.-ft. location at Hampton Village Centre, in Rochester Hills, Mich.

The center is owned by Centro Properties Group, based in New York City.
 

WARREN, Mich. -- Art Van Furniture announced that, for the first time in company history, it will grand open three stores in one day. On January 22, 2011, Art Van will celebrate the grand openings of three new stores  in Auburn Hills, Petoskey and Onaway. Mich.

Belgium -- Belgian supermarket operator Delhaize Group said Thursday it plans to spend $1.21 billion opening new stores and remodeling existing outlets.

According to a report by Wall Street Journal, Delhaize, which operates mainly under the U.S. Food Lion, Hannaford and Sweet Bay banners, is making the investments despite a fourth quarter same-store sales decline of 0.8%.
