  • Uniqlo’s Mall Play

    Uniqlo has made its first move in an ambitious plan to become a major presence in shopping malls throughout the nation. The company, Japan’s largest retailer and a division of Fast Retailing Co., has jump-started its U.S. expansion with the opening of a 43,000-sq.-ft. store in Westfield Garden State Plaza, Paramus, N.J.

  • Davaco relocating Canada office; names director of operations

    Dallas -- Davaco, a provider of high-volume programs and implementation services for global brands, is relocating its Canadian office to a new space in Woodbridge, Ontario, effective Nov. 1.

    The company’s new office is located at 525 Rowntree Dairy Road, Unit 1, Woodbridge, Ontario, L4L 7K6.

  • Cabela’s income up 28%; to accelerate expansion of smaller-store format

    Sidney, Neb. – Cabela’s Inc. said Thursday that its net income rose 28% in the third quarter, in line with expectations, as the outdoor sporting goods retailer's smaller store format outperformed its larger, standard format.

  • Stein Mart opening seven stores

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Stein Mart is expanding with the opening of seven stores this fall. The new stores are located in Surprise, Ariz.; Katy, Texas; Tucson, Ariz.; and Charlottesville, Va. The McAllen, Texas; Biloxi, Miss.; and San Dimas, Calif., stores are a relocation of another area store to improve sites.

    The four new and three relocated stores bring Stein Mart's total store count to 263 at the end of this year.

  • West Elm to open South Coast Plaza store

    Brooklyn, N.Y. -- West Elm, a division of Williams-Sonoma, announced that it will open a store in South Coast Plaza on Nov. 2.

    The store will feature a three-sided living wall and will be the first West Elm to open with the company’s newly announced West Elm Market shop-in-shop. Through a partnership with Etsy, it will also feature a collection of decorative accessories and art made by artists from the Orange County area.

     

  • Build-A-Bear Workshop posts Q3 loss; to close 50 to 60 stores

    St. Louis -- Build-A-Bear Workshop reported a net loss of $4.3 million in its third quarter, compared with net income of $0.9 million a year ago, and said it would close 50 to 60 underperforming locations in the next two years in an effort to improve its profitability and reach its “optimal” count of 225 to 250 locations.

  • Eataly to open in Chicago

    New York -- Macerich announced that Eataly, the largest artisanal Italian food and wine emporium in the world, has reached an agreement to open its second U.S. location, at The Shops at North Bridge near Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

    The new location, expected to open in September 2013, will be the concept's largest, at 60,000 sq. ft. Eataly opened its first U.S. store, in Manhattan, in 2010.
    Eataly is a collaboration among Joe Bastianich, Mario Batali, Lidia Bastianich and Oscar Farinetti, who founded Eataly in Turin, Italy, in 2007.

  • Santa Fe Cattle Co. opens at Stirling Bossier Shopping Center

    Bossier City, La. -- Covington, La.-based Stirling Properties announced the opening of a new 7,918-sq.-ft. Santa Fe Cattle Co. restaurant at its Stirling Bossier Shopping Center property, located on Airline Drive in Bossier City.

    Headquartered in Baton Rouge, La., Santa Fe Cattle Co. operates 19 locations in six states, including four in Louisiana.
