  • Trademark to manage Burr Ridge, Illinois, center

    Fort Worth, Texas — Founders Properties has hired Trademark Property Co. to handle management, marketing, accounting and construction for Burr Ridge Village Center, a 232,000-sq.-ft. mixed-use lifestyle center in Burr Ridge, Illinois.

    Located 15 miles west of Chicago, the center forms a downtown for the affluent Burr Ridge community. It includes 195,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurants, 37,000 sq. ft. of office and 196 luxury residential units.

  • Report: Wal-Mart to expand Sunnyvale e-commerce operation

    San Bruno, Calif. – Wal-Mart is reportedly planning to substantially expand its e-commerce operation based in Sunnyvale, California. According to the Oakland Tribune, Wal-Mart intends to add hundreds of staffers to its global e-commerce unit there, bringing the total number of e-commerce employees to about 1,000.

    In addition, Wal-Mart will lease a 107,000-sq.-ft. space in Sunnyvale to help house its e-commerce operations. Currently, the retailer employs about 550 e-commerce employees in Sunnyvale at an existing facility it will maintain.

  • J. Crew plans Asia expansion

    New York – J. Crew is reportedly planning to expand into Asia. According to the Wall Street Journal, J. Crew will open two new stores in Hong Kong on May 21.

    The Hong Kong stores will be J. Crew’s first Asian stores since it closed its stores in Japan in 2008. In 2012, J. Crew said it planned to open stores in Hong Kong, and the U.K., and opened three U.K. stores in 2013. The retailer plans to open five or six stores in Hong Kong in the next few years, and may also open new stores in Japan.

  • Wal-Mart to open 30 and remodel 55 China stores; open DCs

    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to open 30 new China-based stores and remodel 55 of its 400 existing stores there during 2014, as well as open new China distribution centers. The China activity is part of Wal-Mart’s larger three-year plan for growth in the country.

    Wal-Mart will spend $93 million on the store remodeling. The activity this year will be the first major initiative from new China CEO Sean Clarke.

     

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods has healthy Q1; plans 59 new stores

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. reported healthy net income and sales growth during the first quarter of fiscal 2014, compared to the same period a year earlier. Net income rose 8% to $69.98 million from $64.82 million, while net sales increased 8% to $1.44 billion from $1.33 billion.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts seeks franchisees in Roanoke, Virginia

    Canton, Mass. – Dunkin’ Donuts is recruiting franchisees in Roanoke, Virginia. This month, the retailer signed a multi-unit store development agreement with existing franchisee Greg Nigro to develop 13 new restaurants throughout Richmond, Virginia.

  • Subway to open 3,000 stores in 2014

    Milford, Conn. - The Subway restaurant chain is poised to open about 3,000 new locations worldwide this year. Subway currently has more than 41,000 stores in 105 countries worldwide.

    "Location, location, location is still the mantra," said John Devine, director of Subway Real Estate. "We continue to provide our customers with convenient locations to enjoy our great menu offerings. At the same time, we continue to offer landlords and developers a proven, stable and trusted tenant for their real estate."

     

  • Bass Pro Shops to open 13th Florida store

    Gainesville, Fla. — Bass Pro Shops has announced plans for a new store in Gainesville, Florida. Slated to open in 2016, the planned 80,000-sq.-ft. store will anchor Celebration Pointe, a one-million-sq.-ft. mixed-use development that will include retail, restaurants, entertainment, a hotel and residential units. The property lies in the northwest quadrant of Interstate 75 and Archer Road.
