  • Hudson’s Bay in joint ventures with Simon Property, RioCan

    Toronto -- Canadian retail giant Hudson’s Bay Co. (HBC) has entered into two blockbuster deals, forming joint ventures with Simon Property Group and Canada’s RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust to target real estate growth opportunities in the United States and Canada. Both ventures are structured to facilitate an IPO at a later date.

    The partnerships, which combined are valued at about $3.4 billion at the current exchange, are the latest example of retail companies moving to leverage their valuable real estate assets.

  • Boot Barn opens store in Aurora, Colorado

    Irvine, Calif. -- America's largest western and work wear retailer, Boot Barn, will open a store on March 6 at Arapahoe Crossing in Aurora, Colorado.

    The new location will be the company's ninth store in Colorado and the 15th new store opened during this fiscal year.

    With the opening of the new store in Aurora, Boot Barn has 166 stores from coast to coast.
     

  • Frederick's of Hollywood shuttering 31 stores

    Lingerie retailer Frederick’s of Hollywood is reportedly closing at least 31 of its 93 stores as part of a broader re-engineering effort. 

    According to the Wall Street Journal, Great American Group is overseeing liquidation sales at 31 stores, including the flagship location in Los Angeles. The number of stores to be shuttered may rise slightly.

  • Newk’s Eatery plans 30 new stores in 2015

    Jackson, Miss. – Fast-casual restaurant chain Newk's Eatery is expanding to Columbia, South Carolina, as part of growth plans that include nearly 30 new corporate and franchised stores in 2015. The Columbia expansion is in partnership with its newest franchisees, Chris and Pam Corn.

    The Corns will open their first Newk's in City Market in the Vista in late 2015 and have plans to open two additional locations in Columbia and the surrounding area.

  • The Corners of Brookfield to break ground spring 2015; Von Maur will anchor

    Milwaukee -- Contracts are finalized and on-site work will soon begin on The Corners of Brookfield, a new 750,000-sq.-ft. premier lifestyle center that will be located on approximately 19 acres of land bounded by West Bluemound Road, North Barker Road and I-94 near Milwaukee.

    The final development agreement has been signed with the Town of Brookfield, demolition of the vacant Menards building on The Corners project site will begin in the coming weeks and a formal groundbreaking is planned for spring 2015.

  • Report: RadioShack cleared to sell 1,100 store leases

    RadioShack has received court approval for its plan to sell the leases to more than 1,100 stores that it will close by the end of February, according to Reuters.
