  • Toys ‘R’ Us to cut back on holiday pop-up

    New York City -- Toys “R” Us will open fewer holiday pop-up stores this year, Reuters reported.

    In 2010, the chain opened some 600 temporary Toys “R” Us stores nationwide. But spokeswoman Kathleen Waugh said the company has decided to open fewer stores this holiday season, according to the report.

  • Sears, Kmart help support Irene recovery efforts

    NEW YORK — Sears and Kmart stores announced that they are supporting emergency relief efforts in a dozen states to help residents recover from Hurricane Irene’s damaging winds and floodwaters.

    Sears and Kmart stores will offer discounts on recovery items in stores throughout Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

  • Lundgren named to board of Federal Reserve Bank of New York

    New York City -- Terry Lundgren, CEO of Macy’s, has been appointed to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York board of directors.

    Lundgren was appointed a class B director starting Aug. 31 for the unexpired porting of a three-year term ending Dec. 11, serving the remainder of GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt’s CEO term.
     

  • Sam's Club hosts free diabetes health screenings

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam's Club is offering free diabetes health screenings for both adults and children on Sept. 10, the retailer announced.

    The free screenings will be held in Sam's Club pharmacies nationwide from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include glucose, A1C, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) tests. Glucose tests are not available, however, in Tennessee, Maryland and Hawaii, Sam's Club noted.

  • Loehmann's celebrates Fashion Week with in-store runway show

    NEW YORK — Loehmann's, which operates 40 off-price apparel stores in 11 states, announced that it is kicking of New York Fashion Week with its first-ever runway fashion show at its New York flagship store in Chelsea on Sept. 8. The event, in celebration of Fashion's Night Out, will feature more than 25 creative looks complete with silhouettes and styles from Loehmann's famous "Back Room" collection of high-end designer collections, the company reported.

    New York City -- Japanese fast-fashion giant Uniqlo is set to open its largest global flagship to date, an 89,000-sq.-ft. store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The store, which will also be the larger single retailer on Fifth Avenue, will open on Oct. 14.
