  • Retail container imports to increase 8.5% in September; strong holiday numbers expected

    Washington, D.C. -- Import cargo volume at the nation’s major retail container ports is expected to increase 8.5% in September compared with the same month last year, and strong increases are expected into the holiday season despite talk of a possible strike at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released today by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

  • Donahue Schriber launches construction on Rocklin Crossings

    Rocklin, Calif. -- Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Donahue Schriber announced the start of construction on Rocklin Crossings, a 543,500-sq.-ft. power center located just east of Sacramento, in Rocklin, Calif.

    Anchored by Walmart, Rocklin Crossings is one of two sister-shopping centers being developed by Donahue Schriber within the city. Together, they will offer over 900,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurants providing a regional shopping and entertainment destination for Rocklin.

  • Macy's campaign channels sitcom fun

    NEW YORK — Macy's is paying homage to the TV sitcom with its new, "What's in Store?" campaign.

    The campaign, which debuted on Sept. 10, will consist of a series of comedic shorts featuring new Macy’s Herald Square store manager, Harold, as he collides with the many stars and wacky situations that make the “World’s Largest Store” a haven for the fun and fashionable.

  • Save-the-date: sustainability milestone meeting set for 9/13

    Thursday, September 13 at 9 a.m. central time is the start date for another one of Walmart’s sustainability milestone meetings. The company uses the gatherings, Webcast from its home office auditorium, to highlight a wide range of environmental initiatives that increasingly contribute to efforts to operate more efficiently.

     

  • ODP, NASCAR auction to raise money for BTS charity

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot will auction off items worn by NASCAR driver Tony Stewart to raise money for the Office Depot's National Backpack Program.

    Through Sept. 14, fans can bid on an autographed firesuit and helmet worn by Stewart, driver of the No. 14I Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The auction is accessible via www.OfficeDepotRacing.com.

  • Saks to shutter an Illinois and a Texas store

    New York -- Saks Inc. said Thursday that it will close its Highland Park, Ill., store, located in Renaissance Place, and its Austin, Texas, store, located in the Arboretum Market.

    Both stores are slated to close on Dec. 31.

  • idX opens Mexico City office

    St. Louis -- idX Corp., a global retail solutions provider, has announced it has opened a Mexico City office. The office will provide regional project management for idX clients as they continue to expand into Mexico and Central America.
     
    Jimena Sotres has joined the firm as account executive, based in the Mexico City office.
     

  • Macy's raises $4 million during cause shopping event

    NEW YORK — Macy’s has raised $4 million for March of Dimes and various charitable organizations across the country as a result of its 2012 “Shop For A Cause” event.
