  • We’ve got ‘the power’

    Chain Store Age makes no secret of the fact that we are a retail publication – and have been since 1925. Our readership is retail headquarters executives and our content is directed toward, and influenced by, that very group.

    In the September 2014 issue, however, we looked at another group – one that is integrally involved with retailers and often determines the success of a single store or an entire market:  retail brokers.

  • A.C. Moore, Lion Brand Yarn Company & Vanna White to raise funds for children’s hospital

    Beginning Sunday, Sept. 28 through Saturday, Oct. 4, A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts will partner with Lion Brand Yarn Company and Vanna White, a Lion Brand spokesperson for more than 20 years, to donate 10% of sales from all Vanna White yarn lines to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

    Across its 139 locations, A.C. Moore will offer special pricing on Vanna’s Choice, Vanna’s Choice Baby, Vanna’s Tapestry and Vanna’s Palettes yarns. Through this initiative, the partners guarantee a minimum $10,000 donation.
     

  • Free diabetes screening at Sam's Club

    To help encourage early detection of diabetes in communities around the United States, Sam’s Club Pharmacy will host free diabetes screenings to both members and non-members on Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
     
    The diabetes screenings are free, confidential and available to the public at all Sam’s Club locations with a pharmacy (599 locations). The screenings, valued at $250, include tests for:

  • HBC adds Sony Pictures exec Andrea Wong to board

    Hudson's Bay Company has appointed Andrea Wong as a director of the company. Including Wong, who is considered an independent director, the board is now made up of 10 directors.

  • Gabriel Kreuther, Bluestone Lane Coffee coming to midtown Manhattan

    New York -- RKF announced that it has arranged two new leases at the Grace Building in Midtown for chef Gabriel Kreuther’s first solo restaurant and Bluestone Lane Coffee. The Grace Building is co-owned by Brookfield and The Swig Company.

  • Mall Marketing Spotlight: "Santa Paws" at the Mall at Short Hills

    The Mall at Short Hills (New Jersey) will launch the holidays with its 13th annual “Santa Paws” promotion, as shoppers have pictures taken with Santa--pets in tow. On Nov. 9 and Nov. 16, shoppers will bring their canine companions--in costume, if desired--to the Ice Palace at Grand Court on the lower level of The Mall at Short Hills and have a holiday photo taken.
  • Peet’s Coffee & Tea opening 16 stores in Chicago market

    Chicago -- Peet’s Coffee & Tea is growing its footprint in the greater Chicago area, opening 16 stores in a phased rollout across the market this fall. Chicago is part of Peet’s aggressive U.S. expansion effort that began last year, which will bring its store total to nearly 300 locations nationwide by the end of the year.

  • Walmart, Target, CVS and Exchange make ‘best companies for Latinas to work for’ list

    New York -- Walmart, Target, CVS Caremark and the Army & Air Force Exchange Service are among the 50 best companies for Latinas to work for, according the magazine Latina Style.

    Walmart ranked No. 10 on the list, Target No. 36, CVS Caremark No. 41 and the Exchange No. 46. The 2014 Latina Style 50 will be published in the magazine’s special August issue, and the companies will be recognized at the magazine’s awards ceremony and diversity conference early in 2015.
