  • Bon Ton boosts net sales, lowers net loss

  • Ralph Lauren’s Q4 profit jumps 35%

    New York – Ralph Lauren Corporation reported increases in sales and net income during both fourth quarter and the full year of fiscal 2013. Quarterly retail sales rose 7% from $752 million to $804 million, while annual retail sales rose 6% from $3.4 billion to $3.6 billion. Ralph Lauren attributed both the fourth quarter and full year retail sales improvement to incremental contribution from new stores and e-commerce operations, as well as consolidated comparable store sales growth of 3%.

  • Sam’s Club locations open to non-members in Central Okla.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Five Sam’s Club locations in Central Oklahoma are temporarily waiving membership requirements to support residents and communities affected by the tornadoes that ravaged the area May 20. 

    The clubs also established free power stations so members of the community without power could recharge their mobile devices, laptop computers and other electronic devices.

  • Wal-Mart hires Hill+Knowlton exec and former Bush advisor as VP of corporate affairs

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Walmart announced that Dan Bartlett will become the company's new executive VP of corporate affairs in late June.  Bartlett, 41, most recently served as president and CEO of the U. S. arm of Hill+Knowlton Strategies, a global business advisory firm serving corporations, non-profits and associations in 52 countries.

    DALLAS — Bon-Ton is turning to PeopleAnswers to help the company improve retail sales and lower employee turnover. Under the terms of a five-year software licensing agreement, the company will leverage PeopleAnswers’ HR-focused business solution to achieve its goals.

    New York -- Armstrong World Industries names Target as its 2012 Flooring Recycler of the Year, an award that recognizes organizations that make significant environmental contributions by recycling VCT materials during demolition projects, resulting in waste reduction in landfill materials, transportation, and energy.

    SHANGHAI — A day after Hershey announced plans to launch a new brand in China — marking the first time the company launches a new brand outside the U.S in its 120-year history — the company announced plans to open its Asia Innovation Center in Shanghai. 

  • BDO report: Retailers rate economy and regulatory as top risks

    Chicago -- General economic conditions and federal, state and/or local regulations rank as the top two risks facing the retail industry, according to a new report by BDO USA. The report, an analysis of the risk factors listed in the most recent 10-K filings of the largest 100 public U.S. retailers, found that federal, state and local regulations have increased as a risk among the nation’s largest retailers.
