  • Burger King expands home delivery to Salt Lake City

    Miami -- Burger King Worldwide said that it has now added Salt Lake City to the list of markets employing home-delivery.

    "BK Delivers is already performing well in Boston, New York, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco Bay Area, Las Vegas, Sacramento, greater Washington, D.C., Phoenix and Denver,” said Petru Pusta, director retail innovation, Burger King Worldwide. The program allows consumers in each delivery zone to customize and order Burger King menu items by phone or online.

  • Group-shopping app is winner of Target’s Retail Accelerator contest

    Minneapolis  -- Target has announced the winner of the $75,000 grand prize in its Retail Accelerator contest: a mobile retail concept called “Divvy.” Jointly promoted by Target and Fast Company, the Retail Accelerator competition was designed to foster digital innovation in retail by challenging developers to build a new mobile experience for Target.

  • Dunkin’ Brands elects CEO of Travelocity Global to board

    Canton, Mass. -- Dunkin’ Brands Group, parent company of Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, has elected Carl Sparks, president and CEO of Travelocity Global, to the Dunkin' Brands board of directors, effective July 26. Sparks, 45, has a background in e-commerce, consumer brands and retailing.

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Staples is taking a page from retailers like Macy’s and turning to social media as it gears up for the back-to-school shopping season as it encourages students to follow Staples on Facebook and Twitter with hashtag #StaplesHasIt.

    New York -- Office Depot and OfficeMax Inc. on Tuesday moved one step closer to becoming one company as their shareholders voted to approve the merger between the two office supply rivals.
     

  • Ex-Target exec Francis shares DreamWorks vision

    Michael Francis left his role as Target’s chief marketing officer for presumably greener pastures at J.C. Penney. That gig proved short-lived, but Francis landed on his feet this past February as chief global brand officer at Dreamworks and he shared his thoughts on the studio, consumer products and retail in the June issue of License!   • North American retailers offer Bangladesh safety plan

    New York -- A group of 17  North American retailers, including Walmart, J.C. Penney, Gap, Target and Macy’s, on Wednesday announced a five-year safety pact aimed at improving conditions in garment factories in Bangladesh. It calls for inspecting all factories that supply their garments within a year, and an agreement to set up basic safety standards within three months.

    The announcement by the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety comes after a separate safety plan was announced on Monday by a group of mostly European companies.

  • Divvy wins Target’s digital design challenge

    A social shopping list app called Divvy was chosen from among more than 76 entrants who participated in innovative exercise in crowd-sourced digital development conducted by Target and Fast Company.

    The Divvy app was created by a New York-based group that called itself Team Pilot and received a $75,000 prize for their effort. The Divvy app which is designed to improve the group shopping experience by allowing multiple users to update a shopping list in real time while making it easier to split the bill and distribute receipts.
