  • Stein Mart plans six store openings

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Stein Mart is expanding its presence this fall with four new stores and two relocated stores. The new stores are located in El Paso, Texas; Buford (Atlanta), Ga.; Elk Grove (Sacramento), Calif.; and Watchung, N.J.

  • Chico’s FAS takes White House Black Market to Canada

    Chico's FAS’ expansion plans are taking it outside U.S. borders, to Canada. The women's apparel retailer is opening a White House Black Market store at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Toronto on Oct. 24, and will follow it up with an opening at Square One, Mississauga on Oct. 29, as well as an opening at Upper Canada Mall, Newmarket on November 12.

  • Snap Into the Customer Convenience Mindset

    SAP demonstrated a concept consumer app called “Snap” at its recent Retail Forum in Dallas. Snap provides customers with interactive 3-D assembly instructions for a vast array of products. The instructions are pulled from manufacturer CAD files and delivered via cloud after the customer scans a product barcode or QR code, with options such as zoom and audio. Snap even lets shoppers register products for warranties and automatically request replacement parts.

  • Report: Halloween sales to grow a slow 3%

    Los Angeles -- Faced with an uncertain economic and political environment and the first government shutdown in nearly two decades, Americans are expected to tighten their holiday budgets this year, beginning with Halloween, according to market research firm IBISWorld. Total spending on the holiday is anticipated to grow only 3% to $7.63 billion in 2013, compared to a strong 17.8% increase in 2012.
     

  • Ross adds 24 new locations to existing 1,130 stores

    Pleasanton, Calif. — Ross Dress for Less opened 24 new locations last Friday, on Oct. 11. The openings complete the retailer’s 2013 expansion plan to open 65 new locations this year.

    The new store openings bring the total of Ross stores to 1,154. Four of the new Ross stores opened in Illinois, three in Missouri and one in Indiana, as the retailer continues its growth in new markets it has entered over the past two years.

     

  • Famous Brands makes four exec appointments

    Broomfield, Colo. -- Famous Brands International, the parent company of TCBY Yogurt and Mrs. Fields Cookies, has appointed David Bloom to the position of senior VP of strategic development, effective immediately. Bloom has been serving as the chief development officer for Hurricane Grill & Wings since June 2012.

    Famous Brands also announced the following promotions: Dustin Finkel to VP of marketing; Belinda Oakley to VP of operations; and Cassie Alvey to VP of Mrs. Fields gifting.

  • Omnichannel exec joins Kurt Salmon

    Management consulting firm Kurt Salmon has named Deanna Emsley as a partner in the firm’s Retail and Consumer Products Group.

    Emsley has nearly 25 years of experience in retail, specializing in planning, forecasting, distribution and omnichannel. She has worked as a consultant and in-house for top-tier brands, including Williams-Sonoma and Abercrombie & Fitch.

  • DSW opens new store Oct. 17

    Columbus, Ohio -- DSW Inc. is opening of a new store in Greenville, S.C. on October 17. As of May 18, 2013, DSW operates 377 stores in 42 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, as well as 348 leased departments for other retailers in the U.S. under the Affiliated Business Group.
