  • McDonald’s U.S. same-store sales climb 0.2%

    Oak Brook, Ill. – McDonald’s reported a slight 0.2% increase in U.S. same-store sales for October 2013. Same-store sales rose 0.5% globally, which also includes a 0.8% increase in Europe and a 2.8% decline in Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa.

  • Sherwin-Williams gives new meaning to “trading paint”

    Looking to tap into the loyalty of NASCAR fans, Sherwin-Williams has deepened an existing relationship with the racing organization to become the official automotive paint of NASCAR.

    Sherwin-Williams is already the official paint of NASCAR and the automotive designation takes effect January 1.

  • Rue21 launches e-commerce site

    Warrendale, Pa. – Rue21 has launched its e-commerce site, Rue21.com. Prices on the site will be the same as prices in the retailer’s stores.

    In honor of the launch rue21 is hosting a "Shop & Win" contest in which five winners will receive a $50 gift card by talking about their favorite rue21 items on the internet. Using hashtag #shoprue21.com, fans can post pictures or comments on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, and Google+.

  • Belk plans 8 p.m. Thanksgiving opening

    Charlotte, N.C. -- Belk stores will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. From 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28 through 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, stores will offer more than 350 early bird specials while quantities last The promotion will feature hundreds of special deals in every department.

    The first 250 customers at each store at the 8 p.m. opening on Thanksgiving will receive a free Belk gift card with a value ranging from $5 to $1,000, and with a guaranteed $1,000 gift card winner in each of the company's 301 stores.

  • Crossroads at Terrell to break ground late next year

    Dallas — The Retail Connection and Oakridge Investments have announced a partnership to build the Crossroads at Terrell, a regional power center at the intersection of I-20 and U.S. Highway 80 in Terrell, Texas. The 225,000-sq.-ft. Phase I of the development will break ground late next year.

  • Kroger expands footprint

    Kroger is expanding its presence in one of the nation’s most competitive retail markets.

    The grocery retailer plans to open five new Marketplace stores and expand the size of three existing locations in North Texas in the next two years — a capital investment of $150 million. The company also plans to open multiple fuel centers and remodel existing properties. The growth initiative will create more than 1,700 full- and part-time career opportunities that offer competitive pay, healthcare plans, retirement options, product discounts and other incentives.

  • Home Depot attempts to rectify racist tweet

    Atlanta – The Home Depot is taking steps to make amends for a racist tweet it sent from its official account on Nov. 7. The tweet, a promotion aligned with ESPN college football coverage, showed a photo of two African-Americans playing the drums along with a person wearing a gorilla mask and the caption: “Which drummer is not like the others?”

  • Meijer opens new supercenter in Danville, Ill.

    Grand Rapids, Mich. — Meijer will open a 190,000-sq.-ft. supercenter in Danville, Ill., on Nov. 7, the sixth new Meijer store to open this year.

    The family-owned retailer, which opened its first store in 1934, now has 204 stores throughout the Midwest.
