  • J.C. Penney debuts new home department

    Plano, Texas -- J.C. Penney Co. on Thursday took the wraps off its highly anticipated new home department. More than 500 stores received a complete home department revamp, with updated flooring, accent lighting, custom fixturing and a widened pathway.

    The new department is made up of a collection of in-store shops for popular designers, including Michael Graves Design, MarthaHome, Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler, and Design by Conran. Each shop-has its own distinct look with a size range of about 300 to about 800 sq. ft.

  • NRF: Los Angeles, New York and Chicago are top cities for organized retail crime activity

    Washington, D.C. -- Los Angeles, New York and Chicago top the list of the cities with the highest organized retail crime activity, with Miami and Atanta rounding out the top five, according to a study by the National Retail Federation.

    The NRF’s ninth annual Organized Retail Crime (ORC) Survey found that while organized crime has inched down slightly, it remains widespread. Over 90% (93.5%) of retailers said they had been a victim of organized retail crime during the past year, down from 96% the prior year.

  • Marcus & Millichap promotes Douglas K. Mandel

    Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services has promoted Douglas K. Mandel to first VP investments. Mandel also serves as senior director of the firm’s National Office and Industrial Properties Group and director of the National Retail Group.

    In 2012, Mandel was the firm’s top office and industrial agent nationwide.

     

  • CBRE negotiates sale of Carrollton Shopping Center

    Dallas -- CBRE’s Private Capital Group in Dallas has arranged the sale of Hebron Heights Shopping Center in Carrollton, Texas, for an undisclosed amount. The 59,356-sq.-ft. neighborhood shopping center occupies a 10-plus acre site at the corner of Hebron Parkway and Old Denton Road in northwest Dallas.

  • Jones Lang LaSalle adds talent in North Carolina

    Charlotte, N.C. -- Jones Lang LaSalle has signed industry veteran Stephanie Moore as VP in its Charlotte office. Moore will work with John Bemis, executive VP and retail lead for the southeast region.

    Moore comes to Jones Lang LaSalle from CBRE, where she represented landlords such as Equity One, Tishman Speyer, Behringer Harvard and Grosvenor in acquisitions and dispositions. She also conducted nationwide searches for Max Mara, GAP, Godiva and Hickey Freeman.

     

  • Jones Lang LaSalle brokers Tifton Corners sale

    Atlanta -- Jones Lang LaSalle has announced that it has closed the sale of Tifton Corners in Tifton, Ga., to Tifton Retail. JLL represented RCG Ventures in the transaction.

    Anchors at the 186,629-sq.-ft. Tifton Corners include Big Lots, Save A Lot, Tractor Supply Co., Dollar Tree, Citi Trends and Hibbett Sports. The property is currently 84% leased.

    JLL noted that Tifton is near I-75, a major north-south interstate, in south central Ga., two hours north of Tallahassee and three hours south of Atlanta.

     

  • Jones Lang LaSalle to lease and manage Shenandoah Plaza

    Atlanta -- Jones Lang LaSalle has announced that its retail group, in an exclusive deal, will lease and manage Shenandoah Plaza in Newnan, Ga. Anchoring the 146,121-sq.-ft. property are Big Lots, Rent-A-Center and Goodwill.

    The property is currently 100% occupied. John Bemis, southeast retail market lead, and Janine Christian, senior VP, will direct JLL’s team on the assignment.

     

  • CIOs Get ‘Smaht’ at MIT Symposium

    As fans of the late ’90s Ben Affleck-Matt Damon film “Good Will Hunting” know, Cambridge, Mass., is often viewed as the province of what are locally referred to as “smaht kids.” I was privileged to be surrounded by “smaht kids” (or their grown-up equivalent) during the recent MIT Sloan CIO Symposium, which was held at Kresge Auditorium on the MIT campus in Cambridge. While there, I got to listen to their insights on how the evolution of IT and business is dramatically changing the role of the CIO.

  • Brixx Wood Fired Pizza comes to The Avenue East Cobb

    Atlanta -- Construction of a new Brixx Wood Fired Pizza is underway at The Avenue East Cobb in Marietta, Ga., just north of Atlanta. Cousins Properties manages the development.

    Approximately 3,600 sq. ft., the new Brixx will seat about 140 inside and 45 outside on a patio. Franchisees Nick and Raj Vadgama will open the new restaurant, the first Brixx in Georgia, in the fall.

    Brixx has also announced plans for a second franchised Georgia location in the Avenue Peachtree City, another Cousins property.
