  • RadioShack opening ‘retro’ store in Fort Worth, Texas

    Fort Worth, Texas – RadioShack has pulled out all the stops for its new hometown location in Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, opening a retro-styled store that speaks to the heritage of the brand and locale. Set to open Oct. 30, it will be the tenth RadioShack concept store to open nationwide, but the first to feature a custom design.

  • Wal-Mart kicks off holiday with employee promotions

    Bentonville, Ark. – Gearing up for the holidays, Wal-Mart announced that it expects to promote more than 160,000 associates to jobs with higher pay and more responsibility this year, including 25,000 promotions during its fourth quarter.

  • SAP survey: Retailers see lack of skilled managers

    Waldorf, Germany – Retailers see a need for functional competencies leaning toward technology and data skills, even more than general business and people management. But a new survey of 76 retail managers from top retailers conducted by SAP during the recent SAP Retail Forum North America in Dallas, Texas revealed that 84% of retailers are worried that it will be challenging to find employees with these skills.

  • 1-800-Flowers.com keeps steady net loss in Q1

    Carle Place, N.Y. – 1-800-Flowers.com reported a net loss of about $4.5 million during the first quarter of fiscal 2014, essentially unchanged from the prior year. Revenues grew 2.9% to $123 million, from $119.6 million.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts plans nine new stores in Reno

    Canton, Mass. – Dunkin’ Donuts has signed a multi-unit store development agreement with new franchise group, HT2 Franchising, LLC, to develop nine new restaurants throughout Reno, Nev. The first restaurant is expected to open in 2015 and the remainder by 2020.

    With this agreement, Dunkin' Donuts franchise opportunities are sold out in Reno, but opportunities exist to grow the brand throughout the West in Colorado and California.

  • Poll: Americans pessimistic on economy

    New York -- Looking ahead, there is a sense of pessimism on the economy in the next few months among U.S. consumers. In September 2013, Harris Poll results showed that almost half of U.S. adults (46%) said, in the coming year, that they expect the economy to stay the same, while less than one-quarter (22%) expected it to improve and one-third (32%) expected it to get worse.

  • Sears may spin off Lands’ End and Auto Center; sells five Canada stores

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – As part of a wide-ranging strategic review of its business, Sears Holdings Corp. is considering spinning off its Lands’ End and Sears Auto Center brands. The company’s Sears Canada subsidiary has also sold five Canadian store leases to Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited for about $383.4 million.

  • Divaris leases nearly 7,000 sq. ft. to Goodwill

    Washington, D.C. — Divaris Real Estate has announced that Goodwill has signed a 6,954-sq. ft. lease at Divaris-leased Maddex Square Shopping Center in Shepherdstown, W. Va.

    Divaris
    represented the landlord in the lease negotiations. Food Lion and McDonalds anchor Maddex Square.
