  • Newegg kicks off Black November

    Newegg, a leading electronics-focused e-retailer in the U.S., has kicked off this year’s Black November shopping event. The online retailer first unveiled Black November in 2010.

    The company will be offering exclusive deals on the first four days of Black November across 60 categories, including computers, electronics, automotive, sporting goods and jewelry.

  • Lay's to roll out chocolate-covered potato chip

    Lay's will be introducing Lay's Wavy Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate next week, according to a report from USA Today.

    The chips, priced at $3.49 for a 5-oz. bag, will only be sold at Target for a limited time through the holidays. If the product is successful it could become a permanent fixture on store shelves, according to Ram Krishnan, VP marketing at Frito-Lay.

  • Customer service credited for bolstering Publix’s Q3

    Publix credited its customer service for helping fuel third-quarter sale sales of $7 billion, a 5.6% increase from last year’s $6.7 billion. Comparable-store sales for the third quarter of 2013 increased 4.1%.

    The company reported net earnings for the quarter of $359.9 million, a decrease of 2.3% from $368.4 million in 2012. Earnings per share for the third quarter decreased to $0.46 for 2013, down from $0.47 per share in 2012.

  • J.C. Penney earns Energy Star certification for over 500 stores

    Plano, Texas -- J.C. Penney has secured Energy Star certifications in over 500 stores, one supply chain facility and its home office, far surpassing the company’s initial goal of having 400 locations certified by the end of 2013. (The Environmental Protection Agency awards Energy Star certification to buildings that rank within the top 25% of similar commercial buildings nationwide by meeting strict energy performance levels set by the EPA.)

  • Oracle and Google experts helping to fix Obamacare website

    New York  -- Experts from Oracle, Google, Red Hat Inc. and other top technology and Internet companies are joining the effort to "address the problems around Healthcare.gov," the  health-insurance exchange website for the Affordable Care Act, according to a spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

    The website has been plagued by slowdowns and severely limited functionality since its rollout on Oct. 1.

  • Jos. A. Bank open to upping bid for Men’s Wearhouse

    Hampstead, Md. -- Jos. A. Bank Clothiers said that it will consider increasing its $2.3 billion buyout offer for Men's Wearhouse. The retailer also said that it would drop its proposal in two week if Men's Wearhouse did not enter into discussions.

     In a letter sent to Men's Wearhouse CEO Douglas Ewert, Jos. A. Bank chairman Robert Wildrick said that if the talks are not held by that date it will pull its offer so that it can consider other strategic options that it has been investigating.

  • Neiman Marcus teams up with 3D printing company in holiday offer

    New York -- Neiman Marcus and 3D printing marketplace Shapeways have teamed together to offer a limited holiday collection.

    The collection consists of two pieces available in Shapeways’ 3D Printed metal finishes: A monogrammed silver heart pendant necklace that can be customized with initials, and an orb stainless steel sculpture paperweight. Both items are made by Shapeways' 3D Printing and feature its prin.

  • J.Jill launching new store design

    Quincy, Mass. -- J.Jill is debuting a new store prototype in four locations across the country: Short Hills, N.J.; Huntington Station, N.Y.; King of Prussia, Pa.; and San Diego, Calif.

    “The new approach to store design is based on our understanding of what is important to our customers,” said Paula Bennett, CEO and president, J.Jill. “We want to delight her with our beautiful, versatile collections and inspire her confidence with our guiding service. The new stores offer her a very warm welcome."

  • Sears Appliance & Hardware debuts smaller store format

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Appliance & Hardware has debuted a smaller, neighborhood model format that will become a company standard for all new locations going forward. The new store, in Dallas, is also the first brand new Sears Appliance & Hardware store to open in the past ten years.

  • Tandy Leather Factory sets Atlanta store opening

    Fort Worth, Texas -- Tandy Leather Factory announced plans to open a store in Atlanta, in November. It’s the second Tandy store in the Atlanta area, and the company’s 79th overall.  

    The new store is located in the Westfork Business Center and will open on Nov. 18.
