  • The new look of criticism at Walmart

    The spiffy new look Walmart store associates are sporting these days is drawing complaints from some quarters who think the company went too far in striving for a modest degree of uniformity in the appearance of employees.

    Apparently, it is now too much for Walmart to require employees to dress a certain way while they are at work with the dispute centering on what constitute a uniform versus a dress code and whether Walmart should pay for the clothes employees wear to work.

  • Smoothie King to roll out Revel iPad POS solution

    Covington, La. - Smoothie King Franchises Inc. will roll out the Revel Systems iPad POS solution at 700 stores globally in fall 2014. Smoothie King selected the Revel platform for its scalability and ability to streamline operations.

  • Mondelez taps new SVP, marketing chief

    Global confectionery, food and beverage conglomerate Mondelez International has promoted Dana Anderson to SVP and chief marketing officer.

    Anderson will be accountable for the company's global portfolio of advertising, media and marketing partners and oversee the teams responsible for agency relations, brand equity, brand strategy, marketing capabilities, media and digital for the company's global and regional power brands.

  • REI to open in the Village at Westfield Topanga

    Seattle -- REI will open a nearly 30,000-sq.-ft., two-level store in the Village at Westfield Topanga, Woodland Hills, California, in fall 2015.

    "REI Topanga will join five other stores in serving more than 352,000 active REI members in the greater Los Angeles area. More than 62,000 active members reside within 15 miles of the new store.

  • Jon Kubo returns to The Wet Seal; named executive VP and chief digital officer

    Foothills Ranch, Calif. -- The Wet Seal named Jon Kubo as executive VP and chief digital officer, a newly created position, effective Oct. 6. Kubo will oversee e-commerce, digital marketing and the information technology organization to integrate digital consumer experiences across all business touch points.

  • Sears Canada CEO to leave by year-end; search on for new chief

    Toronto -- Sears Canada Inc. announced that Douglas C. Campbell, president and CEO, intends to resign and return to the United States by yearend for “personal family” issues. Campbell, formerly COO of Sears Canada, was appointed to the top spot in September 2013, after former head Calvin McDonald quit.  

    Campbell was charged with turning around a struggling chain, which has seen eight years of falling sales.
