  • Petco makes some big executive moves

    Petco is making several changes to its leadership team as the retailer focuses on key omnichannel initiatives.

    The pet specialty retailer announced that CEO Jim Myers will also be taking on the role of chairman, Brad Weston has been named president, Steve Lossing has been named senior vice president of operations, and Rebecca Frechette has been named senior vice president in charge of merchandising.

  • C-suite changes at Sprouts Farmers Market

    Phoenix — Sprouts Farmers Market has a new CEO.

    The company announced a leadership succession plan, effective Aug. 6, whereby CFO Amin Mereda has been appointed CEO. Doug Sanders, currently president and CEO, ascends to the role of  executive chairman.

  • Report: Abercrombie decides on-call isn’t cool

    New Albany, Ohio – Specialty chain Abercrombie & Fitch Inc. tries to stay on the edge of cool, and has reportedly decided that on-call shifts are no longer what the cool retailers are doing. According to the Associated Press, Abercrombie will end its requirement for employees in New York stores to be available for short-notice shifts by the end of the year.

  • Charles & Colvard shrinks Q2 loss on lower tax expense

    Morrisville, N.C. — While specialty jewelry retailer Charles & Colvard Inc. saw sales decline and many expenses rise in the second quarter of fiscal 2015, a sharp decrease in income tax expense allowed the retailer to reduce net loss to $4.05 million from $6.19 million in the prior-year period.

    Net sales declined 5% to $7.48 million from $7.84 million.

  • Walmart gives children an appetite for success

    As kids prepare to head back to school this fall, the Walmart foundation is furthering its commitment to increase access to food and nutrition education for children with a whopping donation.

    The retailer is making a $10.5 million donation to four national nonprofits implementing school meals programs.

  • Dollar General vet returns

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. — A familiar face has returned to head up merchandising at Dollar General.

    Dollar General said James W. “Jim” Thorpe had rejoined the company as executive VP and chief merchandising officer, effective immediately. Thorpe previously served as Dollar General’s senior vice president and general merchandise manager from May 2006 until he retired in July 2012.
