  • Penney, Martha Stewart Living scale back partnership in new agreement

    New York -- Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and J.C. Penney Co. on Monday announced a revised commercial agreement covering their licensing and design partnership. The new agreement scales back Penney’s partnership with Martha Stewart Living.
        
    It was not clear how, if at all, the revised agreement could affect the companies’ ongoing lawsuit with Macy’s.
        

  • Report: Bangladesh factories plan minimum wage hike

    Dhaka, Bangladesh – Owners of garment factories in Bangladesh are reportedly prepared to raise the minimum wage they pay workers from 50%-80% and ask retailers to pay at least some of the extra cost.

    According to Reuters, factory owners have offered a minimum wage of about $46 per month. Workers have requested a minimum wage of about $102 per month, and the government is expected to order an increase in a middle range of $54-$66 per month. Current minimum wage is about $39 a month.

  • Hibbett Sports announces board transitions

    Birmingham, Ala. -- Hibbett Sports announced that effective February 2, 2014, Mickey Newsome will transition from his current position as executive chairman and employee of the company to non-executive chairman.

    The retailer also announced that Jeff Rosenthal, president and CEO, has been appointed to the board of directors, effective immediately, thereby increasing the size of the board to ten members.

  • Kraft Foods expands footprint in Champaign, Ill.

    Kraft Foods Group has selected Becknell Industrial to develop and build a new warehouse to support its existing facility in Champaign, Ill. The 730,000-sq.-ft. warehouse will be located on a 35-acre parcel adjacent to its manufacturing site, which is Kraft's largest production facility in North America.

  • Quiznos to expand in UAE

    Denver – Quiznos is preparing to expand in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the recent signature of Royal Bun Cafe as its newest franchisee. Quiznos and Royal Bun Cafe worked together to establish the blueprint for the venture that will bring more than 70 restaurants to the UAE during the next eight years.

    Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah will be the first UAE expansion locales, with stores expected to be complete by early 2014. Quiznos recently expanded into Mexico and Russia.

  • Made in U.S.A. update on tap

    Michelle Gloeckler, SVP of Home at Walmart and head of the retailer’s domestic manufacturing initiative is scheduled to give an update on the program, its progress and inner workings in Bentonville next month.

    Gloecker was recently confirmed as a speaker at an event organized by the Bentonville Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce for the organization’s Walstreet membership group which consists of Walmart suppliers and service provider companies. Gloecker is scheduled to speak on Thursday, November 14.
     

  • Report: Jos. A. Bank may consider hostile bid for Men’s Wearhouse

    Hampstead, Md. – Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. reportedly may consider a hostile takeover bid for Men’s Wearhouse. According to Bloomberg, Jos. A. Bank chairman Robet Wildrick said he would prefer a friendly acquisition but his company is not ruling any options out.

  • DSW shareholders approve split

    Columbus, Ohio - On Oct. 14, 2013, shareholders of DSW Inc. approved a two-for-one stock split of DSW's common shares, along with approving an increase in the number of Class A common shares authorized for issuance. The company plans to effect the stock split on Nov. 2, 2013, by filing an amendment to its articles of incorporation.
