  • Lenovo laptop tops in efficiency

    WASHINGTON — The Lenovo ThinkPad T430s topped TopTen USA's list for energy-efficiency.

    The nonprofit group, appaluded he fact that the laptop uses only 7.4 kilowatt hours of electricity in a year of typical use. The average comparable model uses 28 kWh per year—almost 4 times the energy.  On average, TopTen-listed laptops use about half (48%) the energy of comparable models.

  • Ikea’s Miami-Dade store on track for summer 2014 opening

    Conshohocken, Pa. -- Ikea said Wednesday that contractors have been hired and a building permit is pending for its future Miami-Dade store in Sweetwater, Fla., putting the home furnishings retailer on track for a groundbreaking in 60 days and a summer 2014 opening date.

  • Coca-Cola Foundation head to retire

    ATLANTA — Ingrid Saunders Jones, SVP global community connections for the Coca-Cola Company and chair of the Coca-Cola Foundation will retire after 30 years with the company, effective June 1. 

    A well-respected global leader, Jones joined The Coca-Cola Company in 1982 and has held roles of increasing responsibility around the Company’s corporate giving and community outreach. She has served as Chair of The Coca-Cola Foundation since 1991.

  • Heinz taken out by Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway

    In the food industry’s largest ever acquisition, the H.J. Heinz Company has agreed to be acquired by an investment consortium of Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital.

     

    Heinz shareholders will receive $72.50 a share in cash, a 20% premium to the prior day’s closing price of $60.48, which was at an all time high.

  • Brookshire Grocery Co. joins EPA’s GreenChill

    Tyler, Texas -- Brookshire Grocery Co. recently became one of a select number of grocery retailers nation-wide to join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s GreenChill partnership, which works with supermarkets to reduce refrigerant emissions and decrease their impact on the ozone layer and climate change.

    WASHINGTON -- American Eagle Outfitters has expanded its partnership with the Student Conservation Association to engage students in service to America's national parks.

  • Meijer invests big in new stores, remodels

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer is investing more than $160 million in new store construction and remodeling.

    The investment includes the construction of six new Meijer supercenters and major remodel projects for an additional five stores. Michigan, Indiana and Illinois will each welcome two new Meijer supercenters, with remodel projects planned at an additional four Michigan stores and one Meijer location in Illinois.

  • OfficeMax to get $129M off investment

    NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- OfficeMax has received approximately $129 million in cash proceeds related to its October 2004 investment in Boise Cascade Holdings, L.L.C.  Since 2004, OfficeMax has held two classes of securities in BCH, non-voting equity securities ("Series A Units") and voting equity securities ("Series B Units").
