  • Saks Off 5th to open in Mississippi

    New York City -- Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th announced that it plans to open a store at the Tuscany Place Designer Outlets, a new, upscale pedestrian-friendly lifestyle outlet development in Madison, Miss.

    The center and the Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th store are expected to open in the spring of 2012.

    "We look forward to opening our first Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th store in Mississippi where the temperate climate allows for year round shopping," noted Robert Wallstrom, president of Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th.

  • Watts takes on new role at QVC

    WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- QVC has announced the promotion of Claire Watts to the newly created position of CEO of U.S., reporting to QVC president and CEO Mike George.  Watts' new position, which is effective immediately, includes responsibility for the overall strategy and operations of QVC's U.S. business.  

  • Denny’s makes Cree LEDs preferred lighting standard

    Durham, N.C. -- Denny’s Corp. has chosen LED lights from Cree as the preferred lighting standard for all its new and remodeled stores across the United States. Cree’s six-inch downlights are being specified in various applications, including dining areas and restrooms.

  • J. Crew potential settlement could extend bidding period

    New York City -- A Tuesday report by Bloomberg said that J. Crew Group is close to settling a shareholder lawsuit over its proposed $3 billion takeover by private-equity firms TPG Capital and Leonard Green & Partners LP.

    Citing two unnamed sources, the report said that as part of the settlement, J. Crew would extend the period to solicit competing offers until Feb. 15 and add provisions that make it easier to accept a rival bid.

  • Blockbuster gets extension for restructuring plan

    Dallas -- Blockbuster has received an extension to Feb. 4 to file its restructuring plan in order to emerge from bankruptcy protection, according to a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

    The retailer filed for Chapter 11 protection in September.

  • NRF urges repeal of healthcare reform law

    WASHINGTON -- The National Retail Federation announced that it has urged the House to support a vote to repeal last year’s health care reform law, saying the measure has already begun to discourage job creation and should be replaced with legislation that reduces healthcare costs while protecting jobs.

  • Menchie's Frozen Yogurt opens at Eisenhower Square

    Savannah, Ga. -- Centro Properties Group said that Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt has opened a 1,215-sq.-ft. store at Eisenhower Square.

    The shopping center, located in Savannah, Ga., is owned by New York City-based Centro Properties Group.

  • CVS' Bloom, Baker to lead chain's retail business on interim basis

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark has appointed interim leadership for its retail business with Mike Bloom, EVP merchandising and supply chain, and Scott Baker, EVP internal operations and real estate, taking over the management of the retail business for its 7,100 stores nationwide.

    Bloom and Baker, who will report to Larry Merlo, president and COO of CVS Caremark, are assuming these duties on an interim basis, pending the completion of the company's search for a new president of CVS/pharmacy.
