  • Motorola chair to present at Morgan Stanley conference

    LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. -- Motorola Mobility Holdings announced that its chairman and CEO, Dr. Sanjay Jha, is scheduled to present at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference  in San Francisco, California.

    The live audio webcast will be available at investors.motorola.com. An archived replay will be available on the website approximately three hours after the live event.

  • A new approach to guide political donations

    The Associated Press is reporting that Target has revised its policy governing political donations following a flap last year that tarnished the company’s progressive image. Target drew the wrath of gay rights activists after it was revealed the company donated $150,000 to a business group that supported Minnesota’s conservative Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer who is an opponent of gay marriage and other gay rights initiatives.

  • Davis named global chief of consumer insights

    Walmart earlier this week named Cindy Davis EVP of a newly created global consumer insights business unit. She will be responsible for understanding broad consumer trends world wide and creating advanced analytical tools to support Walmart’s business, a sizeable task considering Walmart’s expanding global empire and the diversity of markets being served.

  • Liz Clairborne narrows loss

    New York City -- Liz Claiborne narrowed its fourth-quarter loss as the company trimmed expenses. But it issued a lackluster outlook for its coming fiscal year.

    The company said Thursday that it lost $30.1 million, compared with a loss of $41.7 million in the prior-year period.

    Revenue dropped 7% to $703.7 million from $756.5 million, down mostly because of a transition in the licensing model under its J.C. Penney Co. and QVC deals.

    Still, the results topped Wall Street's $684.6 million

  • Kroger EVP Don Becker dies

    CINCINNATI — Supermarket giant Kroger announced company EVP, Don Becker, died Wednesday after suffering an aneurysm. He was 62 years old.

  • Nordstrom to acquire HauteLook

    Seattle -- Nordstrom announced today it has entered into an agreement to acquire HauteLook, a leader in the online private sale marketplace. The company said the acquisition will enable Nordstrom to participate in the fast-growing private sale marketplace and provide a platform to increase innovation and speed in the way it serves customers in all channels.

  • Guess opens Fifth Avenue flagship

    New York City -- Guess announced Thursday that its North American flagship location has opened at 575 Fifth Avenue, at 47th St., in New York City.

    The new store, the retailer’s largest to date, spans 13,000 sq. ft. over two floors and is inspired by the brand’s new global flagship concept launched in Milan last year.

  • A&P boosts merchandising, marketing team

    MONTVALE, N.J. — Bankrupt grocer A&P, which just revealed plans to shutter 32 stores in six states, has bolstered its merchandising and marketing team with the appointment of six new executives.

    A&P filed for bankruptcy in December 2010 and is in the midst of a turnaround aimed at reducing structural operating costs and enhancing value for shoppers. On Feb. 15, the company announced it is seeking court approval to close 32 stores by the end of the company's fiscal first quarter.
