  • Target.com falls just shy of 'superior' on customer satisfaction list

    ANN ARBOR, Mich.  — Though 79 is just one point shy of what ForeSee considers a superior score on its annual top 100 online retailers for customer satisfaction list, Target should still be concerned as it was three points behind rival Walmart, and three points does make a difference.

    With the lowest score on the list being 69 and the highest being 89, achieved by Amazon.com, most retailers on the list had a score in the 70s, while 36 on the list earned the distinction of scoring 80 or higher. The scores are based on a 100-point scale.

  • Gap’s online Piperlime unit to open its first retail store

    San Francisco -- Online retailer Piperlime, a division of Gap Inc., will open its first retail store this fall, in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City.

    The 4,000-sq.-ft. Piperlime store will offer a similar curated assortment as online, and be styled as a boutique. It will feature a range of brands, from Fryle to Citizens of Humanity, along with upcoming, lesser-known ones, such as Tinley Road and Maison Scotch.

  • Walmart, Sam's Club offer opportunity to support children's charity

    SALT LAKE CITY — Walmart and Sam's Club is offering customers and members the opportunity support the Children's Miracle Network. Now through June 15, Walmart customers and Sam's Club members can make a donation of any amount at the retailers' registers to support the Children's Miracle Network Hospital in their community.

  • Aritzia selects supply chain execution solutions from RedPrairie

    Atlanta -- Women’s fashion retailer Aritzia has chosen to roll out RedPrairie Corp.'s supply chain execution solutions in its 80,000-sq.-ft. distribution center in Vancouver, British Columbia.

  • Stater Bros. sees Q2 sales rise

    SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. reported its second-quarter results for the period ended March 25.

    The retailer's consolidated sales for the quarter rose nearly 2.7% to $937.7 million, compared with the year-ago period, while same-store sales also rose nearly 2.7%. Second-quarter net income totaled $16.4 million, compared with $9.3 million for second quarter of the prior year.

  • Marsh Supermarkets CEO joins Stop & Shop

    Indianapolis -- Marsh Supermarkets said that Joe Kelley, chairman, president and CEO, has left the company to become president of Stop & Shop's New England division. Marsh named COO Bill Holsworth as interim CEO, effective immediately.

    At Stop & Shop, Kelley succeeds Mark McGowan, who was promoted to executive VP supply chain, Ahold USA. Both appointments are effective May 21.
     

  • Macy’s Q1 earnings rise 38%, beat Street but outlook disappoints

    Cincinnati -- Macy's Inc. reported a better-than-expected 38% increase in its first-quarter profit as the chain continues to benefit from its move to target its offerings to local markets. However, the retailer disappointed the Street by failing to up its guidance for the year.

    Macy's said that its net income rose to $181 million for the three-month period ended April 28, up from $131 million a year ago.

    Revenue increased 4.3% to $6.14 billion, from $5.89 billion a year ago. Same-store sales were up 4.4%.

  • A&P to feature CEO in campaign highlighting new store services and products

    MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P president and CEO Sam Martin, will be the star of the retailer's new integrated marketing campaign highlighting the company’s vision to be the best neighborhood food and drug store by offering high-quality, localized products, enhanced services and greater value, the company announced Wednesday.
