  • Claire's names new marketing head

    CHICAGO —  Claire's Stores has named Dina Keenan as global SVP/chief marketing officer.

    Keenan recently joined the company, and is a proven marketing executive with more than 20 years of global experience in marketing strategy, brand development, advertising and retail. Her unique cross-disciplinary background comprises both agency and client side experience including The Integer Group, Bath & Body Works, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salons & Spas and Bozell Worldwide. The CMO position reports into Jim Fielding, CEO.

  • Hasbro lacks revenue momentum heading into Toy Fair

    PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Heading into the toy industry's largest trade show next week, toy manufacturer, Hasbro, reported net revenues of $1.28 billion for the fourth quarter of 2012, compared with $1.33 billion in 2011. The company reported net earnings for the quarter of $130.3 million or 99 cents per diluted share.

    Net revenues for the full-year 2012 were $4.09 billion compared with $4.29 billion in 2011. 

    Net earnings for the full-year 2012 were $336 million, or $2.55 per diluted share, versus $385.4 million, or $2.82 per diluted share, in 2011.

    Widespread reports have Walmart Foundation president Sylvia Mathews Burwell heading to Washington to serve as President Obama’s director of the Office of Management and Budget.

  • Sur La Table announces senior merchandising exec promotion

    Seattle -- Sur La Table said Thursday it has promoted Jacob Maurer to the position of SVP – general merchandising manager for the kitchen goods chain.

    The promotion is effective immediately, and will put Maurer in charge of all merchandise buying and product development functions for the company.

  • Whirlpool, Habitat build hope in Benton Harbor

    BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Whirlpool Corporation (WHR) and Harbor Habitat for Humanity have completed construction on the homes built in partnership with Tynisha Murphy and the Patterson family, dedicating the homes in a ceremony that took place Dec. 8. The builds took place on side-by-side lots in the Harbor Shores community of Benton Harbor. 

  • Sally Beauty Q1 earnings double, but misses Street

    Denton, Texas -- Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. reported Thursday that profit in the first quarter nearly doubled year-over-year – from $30.1 million to $59 million – but results still missed Wall Street expectations.

    Revenue rose 4.7% to $905.4 million, shy of analysts’ expected $915.1 million in revenue.

    Same-store sales rose 2.8%.

     

  • Grocery exec joins supply chain board

    Former Delhaize America CEO and Hannaford Bros. executive Ronald C. Hodge has joined the board of the Park City Group.

    Hodge most recently served as an advisor to Delhaize America following a stint as CEO from March 2011 to Octomber 2012. Prior to Delhaize, Hodge spent 31 years with Hannaford Bros. Co., during which time he held various executive roles, including the position of CEO from 2001 to 2011.

  • Hhgregg goes head-to-head with online retailers

    INDIANAPOLIS — Hhgregg announced that it has launched a “Price Match Guarantee” to ensure that its customers receive the lowest advertised prices on merchandise both in stores and online, for up to 30 days after the date of purchase.
