  • Protection programs provider Assurant appoints new SVP

    Assurant Solutions, a leading provider of extended protection programs and services, has appointed Jeff Unterreiner as SVP of its extended protection solutions business. 

    Unterreiner now has overall management responsibilities for the company’s extended service contract and vehicle service contract business. 

  • True Value CEO Heidemann to retire

    True Value president and CEO Lyle Heidemann plans to retire May 31.

    John Hartmann has been appointed as the company’s new president and CEO, following the retirement of Heidemann. Heidemann will continue to serve True Value through the end of 2013 as an adviser.

  • Macy's appeals latest ruling Martha Stewart-J.C. Penney dispute

    New York -- Macy’s Inc. filed an appeal on Monday, challenging Manhattan state court judge Jeffrey Oing’s Friday ruling that J.C. Penney can sell unbranded Martha Stewart goods in its stores, at least temporarily.

    Penney was celebrating the decision that would allow it to sell Martha Stewart items as long as they didn’t carry her name, especially since the products – valued by one analyst at $100 million -- were already manufactured and being stored in warehouses. 

  • Walmart unveils sustainable commitments in global meeting

    Bentonville, Ark. -- In its Global Sustainability Milestone Meeting on Monday, Walmart announced new commitments the retailer says will dramatically increase energy efficiency and renewables, and hasten its path toward being 100% supplied by renewable energy.

    Walmart president and CEO Mike Duke outlined specific goals the company said it intends to achieve by Dec. 31, 2020:

  • EWB Development names former Coach exec as partner

    Essex, Vt. -- EWB Development announced the appointment of Daniel J. Cochran as a new partner and the head of the new Tenant Representation division at EWB.

    Cochran’s 25-year retail and outlet background includes Phillips Van Heusen – where he was SVP of real estate and legal – and Coach, where he served as SVP of real estate and construction.

  • True Value CEO to retire in May

    Chicago -- True Value Hardware said Tuesday that its president and CEO Lyle Heidemann will retire from the company after eight years at the helm, effective May 31.

    The hardware cooperative has named John Hartmann to succeed Heidemann as president and CEO. Hartmann previously served as CEO of New Zealand hardware cooperative Mitre 10. He also spent nearly a decade at Home Depot and HD Supply in a variety of roles, finishing his tenure as CO of the electrical and plumbing/HVAC divisions.

  • Crabtree & Evelyn positions itself on cloud for global expansion

    BURLINGTON, Mass. — Crabtree & Evelyn, an international luxury brand known for its bath, body and home fragrance products, turned to Demandware to re-launch its U.S. e-commerce site, crabtree-evelyn.com. 

  • Beall’s exec joins Publix board

    LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix has elected Beall’s CEO Steve Knopik to its board of directors.

    “We are pleased to have Steve join the Publix board,” said Publix chairman of the board Charlie Jenkins Jr. “His strong retail and financial background and commitment to the community will make him a strong addition to our board.”
