  • Midtown Shopping Center acquires 14.5 acres in Mid-City Los Angeles

    Los Angeles -- Midtown Shopping Center Associates said it has acquired the land under Midtown Shopping Center plus two adjacent properties totaling 14.56 acres for $42.5 million from Catellus Development Corp., based in Denver.  

  • Stein Mart enters e-commerce territory

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Stein Mart has announced its plants to launch its e-commerce business, one of the company's several key initiatives for 2013 following reported financial results. 

    The company has restated its 2011 periods and first quarter 2012 results, released its full-year 2012 financial numbers and said it will unveil several key initiatives in 2013.

  • Orchard Supply loss widens in Q4

    San Jose, Calif. -- Orchard Supply Hardware Stores Corp. reported Monday a loss of $33.6 million for the quarter ended Feb. 2, widened from a loss of $7.3 million in the year-ago period.

    Sales for the quarter rose to $153 million from $141.6 million, and same-store sales edged up 1.6%.

    For the full year,  the company lost $118.4 million, compared with a loss of $14.5 million in the prior year. Sales dipped to $657.3 million, compared to $660.5 million for fiscal 2011.

    NEW YORK, N.Y. — OrderGroove, a leader in subscription retail solutions, has appointed Mike Camp as COO.

  • Target opens 24 stores in Western Canada in May

    Mississauga, Ontario -- Target announced the soft opening dates for 24 locations in Western Canada, with 22 stores opening on May 7 and two  opening on May 14.

    The openings, which include stores in British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba, follow the opening of 24 stores across Ontario. As previously announced, Target plans to open 124 stores across Canada throughout 2013.

  • Barington CEO to step into Jones Group board

    NEW YORK — The Jones Group Inc. has nominated chairman and CEO of Barington Capital Group James A. Mitarotonda to stand for election to the board of directors at the company's 2013 annual meeting of stockholders. 

    With the addition of Mitarotonda, the Jones board of directors will expand to 11 members, 8 of whom are independent, 10 of whom are non-management and all of whom are annually elected.

    NEW YORK — The world’s largest retailers have been scaling back their global expansion activities, particularly in Asia, and turning their attention inward by integrating operations and strengthening their store, Internet and mobile sales channels, according to a new report by Accenture.

    CARY, N.C. — The Pantry, a leading independently operated convenience store chain in the southeastern U.S., has appointed former Dollar General executive Kathleen Guion to its board of directors.
