  • GNC beefs up board with former PetSmart and Midas muscle

    PITTSBURGH — GNC Holdings has elected former PetSmart CEO Robert Moran and former Midas CEO Alan Feldman to its board of directors.

    "We are pleased to welcome Messrs. Moran and Feldman to the GNC board," stated Joseph Fortunato, GNC chairman, president and CEO. "Their extensive experience leading global consumer brands and retail operations, both domestically and overseas, and past experience as CEOs of retail businesses should add significant strength to our board as we execute our future strategies."

  • RadioShack unveils new electronics playground

    A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step, and RadioShack’s quest to makes its 4,300 U.S. stores relevant again began this week with the opening of a new prototype and a re-imagined corporate logo.

    Over the weekend, RadioShack opened a store at 2268 Broadway on Manhattan’s Upper West Side that aims to attract tech-hungry shoppers who will find a new level of products, services and excitement in a store that makes the buying experience fun, according to the company.

  • RadioShack debuts new concept store in Manhattan

    New York -- RadioShack Corp. unveiled its new concept store, opening a location on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The store showcases a number of the features that will be part of a new generation of RadioShack stores that will be rolled out in locations throughout the United States and internationally over the next several months. The new concept is part of a wider initiative by new CEO Joseph C. Magnacca, who took the reins in February, to turn around the ailing chain.
       

  • GNC elects Feldman, Doran as directors

    Pittsburgh – GNC Holdings Inc. has elected Alan D. Feldman and Robert F. Moran to its board of directors. Feldman most recently served as chairman, president and CEO of Midas Inc. from May 2006 until its merger with TBC Corporation in May 2012 and as its president and CEO from January 2003 until May 2006.  Prior to that, Feldman held senior management posts at McDonald's Corporation and the Pizza Hut and Frito-Lay units of Pepsico. Feldman also currently serves on the board of directors of Foot Locker Inc.

  • Campbell adds veteran R&D exec to leadership stock

    CAMDEN, N.J. — Campbell Soup Company has appointed Carlos Barroso as the company’s SVP, global research and development. He will report to president and CEO Denise Morrison. 

  • Buffets appoints two senior executives

    Greer, S.C. -- Buffets, the parent company of six family style steak buffet restaurant chains, has named Chip Romp to the newly created position of VP Training and Jay Allen to Senior VP Real Estate and Development.

    A 20-year training veteran, Romp comes to the company from the Italian Fast Casual concept Fazoli’s, where he served as VP Training, Development & Ops Services. He also has training experience with Applebee’s International, Damon’s International and Jillian’s Entertainment.

  • Edible Arrangements targeting malls with new Edible To Go concept

    Wallingford, Conn. -- Edible Arrangements, known for its fresh fruit arrangements, has launched a format, called Edible To Go, specifically designed for shopping malls and other high-traffic venues.

  • Sport Chalet debuts new format in Los Angeles

    Los Angeles -- Sports Chalet has unveiled a sleek, smaller format in downtown Los Angeles, opening a 27,000-sq.-ft. store at Brookfield Properties’ FIGat7th mall. The center, which opened in 1986, reopened last year after a $40 million renovation.

    The modern layout, designed by Gensler, puts the emphasis on education and training, and features a dedicated central area, called the “Expert Center,” for classes and clinics. The new layout also includes flexible fixtures and modules that allow for the store to be transformed overnight.
