  • Planet Beauty opens three boutiques in SoCal

    Costa Mesa, Calif. -- Over the last three months, Planet Beauty has opened boutiques in three Southern California cities — Corona del Mar, Del Mar and Huntington Beach — bringing the chains store count to 34.

     

  • Veteran analyst sounds off on Walmart

    Walter Loeb has been a part of the retail industry longer than many of the retail executives running Walmart have been alive. And he, like many retail analysts who follow the company, have marveled at its accomplishments over the years.

    However, that wasn’t the case earlier this week when Loeb let Walmart have it over what he regarded as deplorable store standards.

  • Men’s Wearhouse to acquire Joseph Abboud for $97.5 million

    The Men’s Wearhouse has signed a definitive agreement to acquire JA Holding, the parent company of the Joseph Abboud clothing brand, for approximately $97.5 million.
  • GMDC enhances membership services

    The Global Market Development Center has appointed Jason Weber as its new member services manager and Joshua Manweiler as its new communications specialist as part of its strategy to enhance membership services. 

  • Safeway Q2 net income and sales decline

    Pleasanton, Calif. – Safeway reported a substantial decline in net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2013 as well as a drop in sales. Adjusted net income for the quarter was $8.4 million, compared to $122.7 million in the same quarter a year earlier. However, after adjusting for various legal expenses and loss from discontinued operations, net income for the quarter would have been $125.1 million.

  • Walmart for life

    Given the choice of shopping at only one retailer for the rest of their lives, millennial parents chose Walmart over several other popular retailers.
    The study of the millenials, those age 25 to 34, was conducted by Vision Critical, and not surprisingly showed the demographic group changed purchasing habits and behaviors after starting a family.

  • Crocs counts customer traffic

    Chicago – Crocs Inc. has selected ShopperTrak to provide retail traffic counting and analytics in store locations worldwide. In November 2012, Crocs started using a managed service from ShopperTrak at more than 170 stores. It completed a global rollout in spring 2013.

  • Men's Wearhouse expands brand porfolio

    FREMONT, Calif. — Men's Wearhouse has signed a definitive agreement to acquire JA Holding, the parent company of American clothing brand Joseph Abboud, for approximately $97.5 million in cash, subject to certain adjustments. 

    JA Holding is currently majority-owned by funds affiliated with J.W. Childs Associates, L.P. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2013.
