    Los Angeles – Beauty, cosmetics and fragrance stores should experience 2.7% growth in sales to $13.1 billion during 2013. Industry revenue is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 0.8% from 2008 to 2013, according to business intelligence firm IbisWorld.

    New York -- TXT e-solutions, a leading provider of integrated and collaborative planning solutions, today announced that European footwear brand Camper, has successfully implemented TXT e-solutions’ integrated retail planning software to support its entire retail planning cycle as it continues to expand both online and internationally.

  • Ikea launches employee loyalty program

    Ikea plans to launch an employee loyalty program launch in the new year. Beginning in 2014, every employee worldwide will receive an equal contribution to their pension plan, based on the company's financial goals being met.

    The program named Tack! — which means ‘thank you’ in Swedish — was inspired by Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad's wish to “share the success of the Ikea Group with all employees.”

  • Chipotle launches pizza concept

    New York -- Chipotle Mexican Grill announced that it has partnered with restaurateurs Bobby Stuckey and Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson to launch a fast-casual pizza concept called Pizzeria Locale.

    The format debuted in Denver, and is based on a full-service pizzeria by the same name located in Boulder, Colo. The company is exploring options for second and third locations in Denver, according to the Denver Post.

  • Target data breach may affect 40 million customers

    Minneapolis – Target confirmed that it suffered a major data breach that may have affected as many as 40 million credit and debit card transactions at Target stores between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15. Target said the information included customer name, credit or debit card number, and the card’s expiration date and CVV (the three-digit security code).

  • Sears adds law firm exec Cesar Alvarez to board

    Sears Holdings has elected law firm executive Cesar Alvarez to its board of directors.

    Alvarez is co-chairman of the international law firm Greenburg Traurig, which he joined in 1973. Before his appointment as chairman, he served as executive chairman for more than three years and as its CEO for 13 years, starting in 1997.

  • Report: Tesco plans India supermarket entry

    Cheshunt, England – British supermarket and general merchandise retailer Tesco plc has reportedly applied to the Indian government for permission to buy a 50% stake in the Indian hypermarket chain Trent Hypermarket Ltd. According to Reuters, Tesco wants to open stores in western India and would become the first foreign retailer to open a supermarket in India.

  • Saks Fifth Avenue has new marketing chief

    Saks Fifth Avenue, a subsidiary of Hudson's Bay Company, has appointed Mark Briggs as its chief marketing officer, reporting to president Marigay McKee, effective March 2014.

    “Mark brings a wealth of experience in luxury brand management with a proven track record of creating retail magic around heritage brands. His passion for retail theater and essential understanding of the customer will be integral to our success,” said McKee. “I am thrilled to welcome Mark to the Saks team, where he will play a key role on the executive committee.”
