    Women’s apparel retailer Chico’s FAS increased its store count by 99 units in the first quarter even as traffic declined and profits tumbled.

  • Target creates Digital Advisory Council to speed omnichannel efforts

    Minneapolis -- Target Corp. has formed a Digital Advisory Council as part of its efforts to accelerate its digital transformation. Target said the council will help guide the retailer’s omnichannel strategies and push it to innovate faster, and discover new ways to leverage technology to enhance the shopper experience – both online and in stores.

  • Conn’s heads to Tennessee with HomePlus store format

    Conn’s, a specialty retailer of home appliances, furniture, mattresses, consumer electronics, announced the opening of its first two Conn’s HomePlus stores in Tennessee.

    The HomePlus store format showcases furniture and mattresses in addition to the leading brands and the latest technologies in consumer electronics and home appliances. The stores are at Cross Creek, in Memphis, and at Town & Country Commons, in Knoxville.

  • Staples names former Home Depot exec as marketing head

    Framingham, Mass. – Staples has named a veteran marketing executive, Frank Bifulco, as executive VP marketing, effective June 23. Bifulco previously served as chief marketing officer at Home Depot.

    In the newly created role, Bifulco will lead marketing across Staples. He will report to Ron Sargent, chairman and CEO, and will be a member of the company’s executive committee.

  • Aeropostale makes board changes

    Aeropostale has added Stefan Kaluzny, managing director at Sycamore Partners, and Julian Geiger, former director and CEO of Crumbs Bake Shop and former chairman and CEO of Aeropostale, to its board of directors.

    Arthur Rubinfeld is also stepping down as a director of Aeropostale. In addition, the company's board of directors will nominate Kenneth Gilman, currently a director of Zale Corp. and Kate Spade & Co., for election as an independent director.

  • AutoZone Q3 profit up 7.4%

    Memphis -- AuzoZone’s earnings rose a better-than-expected 7.4% to $285.2 million for the third quarter, up from $265.6 million in the year ago period, helped by demand for new parts.
     
    Revenue rose 6.2%  to $2.34 billion. Domestic same store sales rose 4% in the quarter.

    During the quarter, AutoZone opened 30 new stores in the United States and seven new locations in Mexico. As of May 10, the company had a total of 5,279 stores, including 4,901 domestically and 374 in Mexico.
