  • American Girl says ‘hola’ to Mexico

    Middleton, Wis. - American Girl is expanding south of the boarder.

    The brand will make its debut in Mexico, opening in-store boutiques in department store El Palacio de Hierro’s locations in Interlomas and Perisur. The in-store shops, ranging in size from 1,500 sq. ft. to 2,000 sq. ft., open July 4.

    Mexico marks the second international retail presence for American Girl, which opened its first Canadian store in October 2013.

  • Sears Canada CEO out after less than a year

    Sears Canada Inc. is looking for its fourth CEO in a little over two years as the company seeks to return to profitability.

    Sears said Ronald D. Boire will be departing from his position as president and CEO of the company at the end of the summer to pursue an opportunity in the United States. On the same day, Barnes & Noble announced that opportunity is CEO of that company's retail business.

    Sears Canada said that Brandon G. Stranzl, chairman of the board of the corporation, has been named executive chairman effective immediately.

  • Merger costs take toll on Family Dollar Q3 profits

    Matthews, N.C. – The pending merger with Dollar Tree Inc. took a toll on Family Dollar’s profits in the third quarter.

    Expenses related to the merger drove Family Dollar’s net income down 1.5% to $79.9 million from $81.1 million the year-ago period, below Wall Street expectations.

  • Costs hinder earnings at Family Dollar

    Family Dollar had a dip in profit in the third quarter as the company reported higher costs ahead of its planned merger with Dollar Tree.

    Family Dollar Stores Inc. reported a profit of $79.9 million, or 70 cents a share, for the third quarter ended May 30, down from $81.1 million, or 71 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding restructuring- and merger-related charges, the company’s profit was 74 cents a share, compared with 85 cents a year earlier. Net sales rose 2.60% to $2.73 billion.

  • dd's Discounts brings Las Vegas store count to four

    Dublin, Calif. -- dd’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores, Inc., opened a new store in northeast Las Vegas on June 27. The 22,000-sq.-ft. store is located in Bonanza East Shopping Center at the intersection of North Eastern Avenue and East Bonanza Road, 1.5 miles northeast of downtown Las Vegas.  

    The newest location brings the retailer’s total store count in the Las Vegas area to four.

    QVC has named a Procter & Gamble veteran as its next business planning and analysis chief, as the company looks tomaximize efficiencies and organizational synergy.

  • dd's Discounts opens three new California stores

    Dublin, Calif. -- dd’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores, Inc., opened a trio of new stores in California on June 27.

    A 22,000-sq. ft. anchor store opened in Bell Gardens, California, in the El Tapatio Center, located at Florence Avenue and Jaboneria Road, eight miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.  

    In Perris, California, an 18,000-sq.-ft. store opened in the Perris Towne Center at the intersection of Perris Boulevard and Nuevo Road.

  • Warby Parker likes brick-and-mortar

    New York -- Eyewear online retailer Warby Parker continues its brick-and-mortar expansion. With 12 stores now open, the company plans to open seven more locations by year end, according to fashionista.com.

    Warby Parker’s next location is Kansas City, opening later this summer, followed by Scottsdale and San Diego. To read more, click here.
