Staying true to its recently announced growth plan, Dollar General is preparing to break ground on a new distribution center.

Walmart’s house brands are getting a new audience — millennials.   Jet.com, which caters to the cost-conscious Gen Y segment, has started offering private label brands — Great Value, Equate and Sam’s Choice — from its parent company, Walmart, according to Bloomberg.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is expanding its breadth.   The chain is preparing to open five stores during the second week of March, a move totaling approximately 180,000 sq. ft. of retail space.    Specifically, a new Dick’s Sporting Goods will open in the Glendale area of Queens, New York, in one of the former Sports Authority locations that the company took over late last year. Another Dick’s store will open in Hinesville, Georgia.   

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is about to get a new owner.    Restaurant Brands International Inc., owner of Burger King and Tim Hortons, announced it would acquire Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen for $1.8 billion in cash.  

Thomas “TJ” Drought, who spent nearly 20 years in the employ of WP Glimcher, has joined Steiner + Associates as an executive VP.  

Declining mall traffic is taking a toll on Perfumania.   Perfumania Holdings Inc. has hired advisers to explore strategic alternatives, including a debt restructuring, Reuters reported. It also plans to negotiate with landlords to exit some of its 313 Perfumania stores.   The company recorded debt of approximately $164 million on Oct. 29 and $2.1 million in cash and cash equivalents, the report said.
