  • Jones Group nominates Barington Capital chief to board

    New York -- The Jones Group Inc. said Monday that it has nominated James Mitarotonda, chairman and CEO of Barington Capital Group, to its board of directors, expanding the board to 11 members.

    Barington has about a 2.3% stake in Jones Group.

     

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods names new CFO

    Pittsburgh -- Dick’s Sporting Goods has named Andre J. Hawaux as executive VP of finance and administration and CFO. He will oversee finance, legal, strategic planning and risk and compliance.

    Hawaux has more than 30 years of experience as a retail/CPG executive, most recently as president of consumer foods at ConAgra Foods. He has also served in different executive roles in several divisions of PepsiCo.

     

  • Accenture: Retailers are scaling back global expansion

    NEW YORK — The world’s largest retailers have been scaling back their global expansion activities, particularly in Asia, and turning their attention inward by integrating operations and strengthening their store, Internet and mobile sales channels, according to a new report by Accenture. 

  • Former Johnson & Johnson exec to Cantor Colburn

    HARTFORD, Conn. — Cantor Colburn, a leading intellectual property law firm, has hired partner Daniel Chung, former chief trademark counsel at Johnson & Johnson.

    Chung has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of trademark and copyright counseling, enforcement, strategy and portfolio management, having held senior counsel positions at several multinational global corporations and having worked in private practice.

  • OfficeMax investor sues to stop merger with Office Depot

    New York -- An OfficeMax shareholder sued the directors of the company on Thursday, seeking to block its acquisition by Office Depot Inc., Bloomberg reported. The investor called the proposed $1.2 billion all-stock deal "grossly inadequate".

    "OfficeMax, if properly exposed to the market for corporate control, would bring a price materially in excess of the amount offered in the proposed transaction," the complaint filed by investor Eric Hollander said.

  • Canadian hardware retailer appoints new EVP

    BOUCHERVILLE, Quebec — Canadian hardware retailer and one-time Lowe’s buyout prospect Rona has appointed Alain Brisebois the company’s new EVP and chief commercial officer.

    Brisebois will seek to improve operational efficiency and synergy among the company's purchasing, merchandising, procurement and marketing activities.
