  • Stater Bros. names former Supervalu exec as new president and COO

    San Bernardino, Calif. -- Stater Bros. Markets said Tuesday it has named that Peter Van Helden as president and COO, succeeding the retiring Jim Lee.

    Van Helden was previously EVP retail operations for Supervalu.
     

  • Walmart unveils sustainable commitments in global meeting

    Bentonville, Ark. -- In its Global Sustainability Milestone Meeting on Monday, Walmart announced new commitments the retailer says will dramatically increase energy efficiency and renewables, and hasten its path toward being 100% supplied by renewable energy.

    Walmart president and CEO Mike Duke outlined specific goals the company said it intends to achieve by Dec. 31, 2020:

  • J.C. Penney scores victory in dispute with Macy’s — for now

    New York -- A New York State Supreme Court Judge ruled on Friday that J.C. Penney’s could temporarily sell certain housewares products from Martha Stewart Living in Penney stores. The ruling allows Penney to sell the product under the “JCP Everyday” label until a final decision comes at the end of the trial.

  • Overstock.com founder back as CEO

    New York -- Overstock.com founder Patrick M. Byrne has returned as CEO of online discount retailer.

    Byrne took a medical leave of absence in February to address cardiac issues thought to be associated with cancer treatments received much earlier in his life.

  • Former CDW exec in driver’s seat at Cars.com

    CHICAGO — Former CDW executive Barbara Mousigian has been appointed VP of product for Cars.com, an online resource for buying and selling new and used cars. 

    Mousigian will be responsible for defining the company's product strategy. She will also oversee the development and launch of new products and help her team enhance Cars.com's existing properties. 

  • Deloitte Consumer Spending Index holds steady

    New York -- The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index ticked down slightly in March, but has remained relatively steady with a reading over 4.0 the past five months. The Index tracks consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending.

  • Overstock founder returns as CEO
