  • Chute Gerdeman promotes four as it names new creative director

    Columbus, Ohio -- Chute Gerdeman has announced four team member promotions, including the appointment of Mary Lynn Waite, formerly senior designer, brand communications, to creative director.

    In other promotions:

    • Steve Boreman, previously senior designer, brand communications, has been named design director, brand communications.  

    • Kevin Worden has been promoted to director of digital integration, information technology.  

  • Resurgent JCP reports surprisingly strong sales

    Things took a wacky turn in the retail world this week as JCPenney reported a 6.2% same store sales increase and a huge gross margin expansion while Macy’s, Kohl’s and Walmart stumbled.

  • Kohl’s earnings, revenue miss expectations in Q1

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl’s Corp. missed Wall Street expectations for profits, revenue and same-store sales during a difficult first quarter. Net income, which had been expected to rise slightly, fell 15% to $125 million, from $147 million.

    In addition, net sales declined 3% to $4.07 billion from $4.2 billion, while analysts had expected them to rise to $4.22 billion. Same-store sales, also expected to increase, fell 3.4%.

  • J.C. Penney tops views in first quarter; same-store sales up 6.2%

    Dallas -- J.C. Penney topped expectations for the first quarter, reporting a 6.2% increase in same-store sales that easily topped views. Revenue for the quarter, which ended May 3, rose to $2.80 billion, above the $2.71 billion analysts expected, up from $2.64 billion in the year-ago period.  

    It was the second consecutive month of same-store sales gains for Penney, and the retailer said sales improved sequentially each month within the quarter.

    Penney lost $352 million for the quarter, not as much as analysts expected.

  • Hole in one for Target’s exclusive C9 by Champion line

    Golfer Blayne Barber will partner with C9 by Champion, Target’s exclusive line of activewear, while competing on the Web.com Tour this season. The 24-year-old Lake City, Fla., native joins a roster of 12 other athletes supported through Target’s athlete program, and is the first to represent the C9 by Champion brand.

  • Stirling acquires John Toomey & Co. in Mobile, Alabama

    Covington, La. — Stirling Properties has acquired John Toomey & Co., a commercial real estate company based in Mobile, Alabama. Stirling will add Toomey’s 1.8-million-sq.-ft. portfolio to its own, bringing the total to 15.5 million sq. ft.

    John Toomey and his team will join Stirling Properties, with Toomey serving as broker/new business development coordinator for the Mobile area.

  • Weis Markets taps former Walmart exec as SVP, ops

    Weis Markets has appointed David Gose as the company’s SVP of operations.

    In that capacity Gose will oversee the day-to-day operation and management of the company’s stores. He reports to COO Kurt Schertle.

  • FarmaCorp selects Revionics price optimization

    La Paz, Bolivia - Bolivian drugstore chain FarmaCorp S.A., has entered into a five-year agreement for Revionics Price Optimization with Revionics Inc. FarmaCorp was searching for a price optimization solution and a partner that would help analyze customer demand and shopping preferences.
