  • Walmart in huge solar project; 400 systems over four years

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Walmart is making a major investment in solar energy, with plans to install up to 400 new solar projects at stores and facilities across the nation during the next four years. The retailer has tapped two solar energy providers for the installations, SolarCity and SunEdison, following an RFP process.  
  • Gap misses in Q3; details omnichannel moves

    San Francisco – Gap Inc. failed to meet Wall Street expectations for net income and revenue in its third quartet as its namesake brand continues to struggle. The retailer cut its annual forecast as sales at its namesake brand continue to fall, Gap’s net income rose 11% to $351 million from $337 million, helped by lower cost of goods sold and taxes.  
  • Foot Locker quickens its pace

    Enhanced onmichannel capabilities were among the factors that incoming Foot Locker CEO Dick Johnson cited as contributing to the company’s increase in third quarter profits and same store sales.

    Profits for the third quarter climbed to $120 million, or 82 cents per share, compared with profits of $104 million, or 70 cents per share, in the prior-year quarter. Third quarter same store sales increased 6.9% to $1.7 billion this year, compared with sales of $1.6 billion for the prior-year period.

  • Destination XL posts Q3 loss, will open new DXL stores

    Canton, Mass. – Destination XL posted a loss of $6.3 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2014, up from a loss of $4.1 million the same quarter a year earlier. Transition costs, including lease exits and pre-opening costs, contributed to the growing loss.  
  • Foot Locker profits Q3 up 15%

    New York - Foot Locker Inc. reported net income of $120 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2014, a 13% gain from $104 million in the year-ago period.  Higher pretax income aided Foot Locker’s profit growth.   Total sales increased 6.7% to $1.73 million, compared with $1.62 million in the year-ago period. Same-store sales rose 6.9%.  
  • RPAI acquires Avondale Plaza

    Redmond, Washington - Retail Properties of America, Inc. announced the purchase of Avondale Plaza, a 39,000-sq.-ft. neighborhood shopping center in Redmond, Washington (Seattle MSA). The center is located on Avondale Road, and is anchored by PCC Natural Markets.   The purchase price was approximately $15 million.  
  • Macy’s Black Friday deals include giveaways via its mobile app

    NEW YORK - Macy’s is enhancing its Black Friday promotions by giving away  a million dollars in prizes in stores nationwide during doorbuster hours. Beginning at 6 p.m. local time on Thanksgiving Day, customers will have a chance to win big, scoring digital gift codes that can be used instantly for Black Friday purchases.  
  • Norred gains new CPG and retail responsibilities

    CROSSMARK veteran Jim Norred was named president of the sales and marketing services company’s Marketing Solutions Group.

    Norred most recently served as EVP of corporate development with responsibility for client services, business development, insights and corporate marketing. Prior to that, he served as the company’s CIO. He also has served as president of G2, an integrated marketing joint venture that ultimately was acquired by WPP in 2008.
