    Ridgefield, Conn. -- Schimenti Construction Company announced it appointed Gregg Bartel as VP of operations. Bartel joins the company from Kohl’s Department Store, where as VP of pre-construction & development, he oversaw site due diligence and development of retail and non-retail construction projects across the United States

  • Sports Authority makes Puerto Rico debut with new format

    Englewood, Col. -- Sports Authority has debuted a new format at its first-ever store in Puerto Rico. The store, in Ponce, opened on Oct.19.

    The 35,000-sq.-ft. location features an “intuitive” that makes it easier than ever for customers to find exactly what they need, the retailer said. With specialty sport shops and a spacious new layout, the store was designed specifically to enhance the shopping experience.

  • Sports Authority enters Puerto Rico

    Sports Authority is trying out a new store format in its first-ever store in Puerto Rico. The 35,000-sq.-ft. location in Ponce opened its doors Saturday, Oct. 19.

  • Park City Group names Safeway vet as senior advisor

    Salt Lake City – Supply chain technology vendor Park City Group has named Gary Rocheleau, a 40-year retail industry veteran who most recently served as VP of retail marketing execution for Safeway subsidiary Vons Pavilions, as senior advisor.

    Other previous roles Rocheleau has held include president of Grocery Works, Safeway’s home shopping and delivery company. He began his career with Lucky Stores, Inc., where he spent nearly 23 years and his last position was VP of grocery.

  • Wayfair.com appoints Warner Music exec as CFO

    Boston – Wayfair.com has named Michael Fleisher as CFO.

    With Fleisher's appointment, former CFO Nicholas Malone has been named chief administrative officer, continuing to oversee finance, legal, human resources and real estate for the home goods leader, reporting to Fleisher.

  • Report: Bangladesh factories plan minimum wage hike

    Dhaka, Bangladesh – Owners of garment factories in Bangladesh are reportedly prepared to raise the minimum wage they pay workers from 50%-80% and ask retailers to pay at least some of the extra cost.

    According to Reuters, factory owners have offered a minimum wage of about $46 per month. Workers have requested a minimum wage of about $102 per month, and the government is expected to order an increase in a middle range of $54-$66 per month. Current minimum wage is about $39 a month.

  • Wal-Mart names two China execs

    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has reportedly named two new managers for its China business. According to Bloomberg, an internal corporate memo indicates Wal-Mart is naming Adrian Blake as senior VP of business development in China and Rob Bray as senior VP of real estate in China.

  • Hibbett Sports announces board transitions

    Birmingham, Ala. -- Hibbett Sports announced that effective February 2, 2014, Mickey Newsome will transition from his current position as executive chairman and employee of the company to non-executive chairman.

    The retailer also announced that Jeff Rosenthal, president and CEO, has been appointed to the board of directors, effective immediately, thereby increasing the size of the board to ten members.
