  • Shopko exec becomes new Jo-Ann CEO

    Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores has named a new chief executive after announcing the search for a new leader in August.

    The company announced the appointment of Jill Soltau as president, chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors of the company, effective March 2. Jim Kerr, who served as interim CEO, will continue as EVP and CFO of the company.

  • Jo-Ann Fabric names Shopko exec as CEO

    Hudson, Ohio -- Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores has named a 25-year retailing veteran, former Shopko exec Jill Soltau, as president, CEO and a member of the board, effective March 2. She succeeds Jim Kerr, who has served as interim CEO since August when Travis Smith stepped down. Kerr will continue as executive VP and CFO.

    As the Pacific Maritime Association prepares to shut down U.S. West Coast ports from Feb. 13-16, the National Retail Federation (NRF) is issuing a public statement asking for direct White House intervention.

  • Duluth Trading Co. names new CEO

    Duluth Trading Company has promoted Stephanie Pugliese to president and chief executive officer.

    Pugliese is a former executive with Ann Taylor and Lands’ End.

    The previous CEO and principal owner of Duluth Trading, Steve Schlecht, will continue as the company’s executive chairman. Pugliese’s appointment is effective immediately.

  • DDR Corp. elevates CFO to CEO job

    DDR Corp.'s board of directors has promoted David Oakes to the chief executive officer post.

    Oakes, the company's president and chief financial officer, fills a seat left empty by Daniel Hurwitz, who stepped down as CEO in December.

    "After a thorough and robust search process, the board is confident that David is the right person to lead DDR into the future," Terry Ahern, the company's chairman, said. "I also want to thank the team for the terrific job that they have done while the board conducted the search process."

  • West Coast ports to shut down for four days over upcoming weekend

    New York -- Shipping operations will be suspended at U.S. West Coast ports over the coming long weekend, the Pacific Maritime Association announced Wednesday. The planned shut down comes amid  stalled labor talks between the companies and the union representing 20,000 dockworkers.

  • Simon names hotel exec as new senior VP of marketing

     Indianapolis -- Simon announced that Krystal Zell has been named senior VP of marketing. In this newly created role, Zell will oversee the field marketing organization for all Simon Malls, The Mills and Simon Premium Outlets.

    Zell served as VP of Starwood Preferred Guest at Starwood Hotels & Resorts where she led the loyalty strategy, business development and operations for its Starwood Preferred Guest and B2B loyalty programs.





     

  • Report: Target lays off 550 headquarters employees as it exits Canada

    New York -- Target Corp. plans to lay off about 550 headquarters employees as the company winds down its Canadian operations, the Star Tribune reported Wednesday. The retailer is also eliminating 170 positions at its tech operations in India that supported the Canadian venture.

    About 350 of the headquarters job are being eliminated Wednesday, with the remaining employees to be let go after Target’s stores in Canada are liquidated.
