  • New GM named for Town Center at Boca Raton

    Boca Raton, Fla. -- Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group said that Brian Nelson has been named general manager of Town Center at Boca Raton, located in Boca Raton, Fla.

    Nelson will be responsible for mall operations, tenant relations, leasing, marketing, business development, security and customer service.

    Nelson was previously the Indianapolis-based area manager for Greenwood Park Mall, Washington Square Mall and four community centers operated by Simon Property Group.

    He has been with Simon Property Group since 2000.

  • Sears to shutter 100 to 120 Kmart, full-line Sears stores

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings Corp. said Tuesday that it will close between 100 and 120 underperforming Sears and Kmart stores, following dismal holiday sales results for the brands.

    The company said it has not yet identified which stores will be shuttered, but said that the closures are part of an overall plan to shift its focus from shoring up underperformers to concentrating its efforts on stronger stores.

  • Christopher & Banks loss widens in Q3

    San Francisco -- Christopher & Banks Corp. reported Thursday a loss of $28.2 million for the quarter ended Nov. 26, widened from a loss of $9.2 million in the year-ago period and reflecting a one-time charge.

    Sales rose to $123.9 million, from $120.9 million a year ago, matching Wall Street expectations. Same-store sales for the quarter were flat.

    RICHMOND, Va. — Amazon.com announced that it plans to open two fulfillment centers in Virginia, investing a total of $135 million. The company said it will invest $85 million and create more than 1,000 jobs in Chesterfield County, and invest $50 million in Dinwiddie County, creating more than 350 jobs.

    RICHMOND, Va. — Amazon.com announced that it plans to open two fulfillment centers in Virginia, investing a total of $135 million. The company said it will invest $85 million and create more than 1,000 jobs in Chesterfield County, and invest $50 million in Dinwiddie County, creating more than 350 jobs.

    “We look forward to opening two new Amazon facilities in the Richmond area next year, bringing tens of millions of dollars and hundreds of new jobs to the state,” said Dave Clark, VP Amazon North American Operations.

    Record snowfall last season spelled trouble for many roofs and parking garage decks. The continuous storms that dumped more than 2 ft. of snow in New England alone had facility owners frantically addressing weight load issues as heavy snow and ice threatened, and in some cases caused, roof and deck top collapses. The fallout: a rise in lawsuits as owners, insurance companies and snow contractors battle over snow and ice procedures followed, or not, in comparison with written contracts.
