  • Avery Dennison Q1 2013 in line with expectations

    PASADENA, Calif. — Avery Dennison Corporation’s first-quarter 2013 results were in line with its expectations, according to chairman, president and CEO Dean Scarborough.

    The company’s total net sales for the quarter were $1.5 billion, an increase of 4% from $1.4 billion for the same quarter a year ago. Net sales adjusted to exclude the estimated impact of currency translation, product line exits, acquisitions and divestitures increased 4%. 

  • Starbucks entering yogurt business in deal with Dannon

    Seattle -- Starbucks Coffee Company is entering the yogurt business. The company announced it has entered into a strategic agreement with the makers of Dannon to offer a jointly created and developed selection of specialty yogurt products in participating Starbucks stores and in grocery channels.

  • Ocean Spray appoints global CMO

    LAKEVILLE-MIDDLEBORO, Mass. — Ocean Spray Cranberries has appointed Thano Chaltas to the newly created role of global CMO. He will report directly to Ken Romanzi, SVP and COO of Ocean Spray Brands.

    Chaltas will be responsible for global brand development, and a part of the grower-owned cooperative’s leadership team. 

  • Art Van Furniture Debuts in Chicagoland

    Warren, Mich. — Michigan-based Art Van Furniture opened its first out-of-state retail store in Orland Park, Ill., last week with a Motown-themed grand opening celebration.

    The new 47,000-sq.-ft. location heralds the opening of five more Art Van stores in the Chicago region in coming months. Locations include Ford City-Chicago, Batavia, Elston Avenue-Chicago and Merrillville-Hobart, Indiana. The new stores will add 600 new jobs to the region.

  • Johnny Rockets names Campanaro CFO

    Aliso Viejo, Calif. – Johnny Rockets has named Gary Campanaro as CFO. Campanaro previously served as CFO for the El Pollo Loco and Claim Jumper restaurant chains and has also held executive roles at Keith Companies, CB Richard Ellis and CKE Restaurants.

  • K-C ‘optimistic’ following flat Q2 net sales

    DALLAS — Kimberly-Clark Corporation’s net sales for the second quarter ended June 30 were flat at $5.27 billion compared to the year-ago period. 

    Sales adjusted to exclude the impact of changes in foreign currency exchange rates and lost sales as a result of European strategic changes and pulp and tissue restructuring actions rose 3.

  • GNC opens first standalone China store

    Pittsburgh -- GNC Holdings Inc. on Monday opens its first freestanding store in China. The store, located in the Raffles City complex in Shanghai, is the first of about 25 standalone stores GNC plans to open in China during the next 12 months.

  • Fewer movies in 2013 contribute to Hasbro Q2 dip

    PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Hasbro reported net revenues of $766.3 million for the second quarter ended June 30, a 6% decline compared to $811.5 million in 2012. Despite seeing growth across its girls, games and preschool categories, it was not enough to offset a decline in the company’s boys category.
