  • Gap Inc., Petco, Levi Strauss among 2015 World’s Most Ethical Company honorees

    San Francisco -- Gap Inc., Petco Animal Supplies, Levi Strauss are the only U.S. retail brands to be recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as a 2015 World’s Most Ethical Company.

    The annual designation, which recognizes organizations that foster a culture of ethics and transparency at every level of the organization was given to 132 companies. The only other retail brands on this year’s list are Sweden’s H&M and the United Kingdom’s Marks and Spencer.

  • Retailers’ ethics don’t make Ethisphere grade

    The Ethisphere Institute is out with its “World’s Most Ethical Companies” list and the names of retailers are few and far between.

  • Luke Petherbridge named CFO of DDR

    Beachwood, Ohio -- DDR has named a new financial chief, and the shopping center company reached from within its own ranks for the appointment. Luke J. Petherbridge, age 35, assumes the role of CFO effective immediately.
     
    "Luke is an accomplished executive with a proven track record within our company, overseeing the balance sheet, fostering strong banking and capital partner relationships, and sourcing large scale transactions during his tenure with us," said David Oakes, president and CEO.

  • Staples swings to Q4 loss on charges; but commercial division on upswing

    Framingham, Mass. – Staples Inc. underwent a difficult fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 as the company swung from a profit to a loss on special charges, faced investor pressure to change its board, sluggish sales and deal with fallout from its plan to acquire its largest competitor.  

  • Foot Locker runs up profit in Q4; sales surge

    New York  -- Foot Locker posted better than expected fourth quarter earnings on Friday, amid strong holiday sales. Net income jumped 21% to $146 million in the quarter, up from $121 million last year.

    Total sales in the quarter increased 6.7% to $1.91 billion, also beating estimates of $1.87 billion. Same-store sales rose 10%.

    Australian specialty tea retailer T2 has made its U.S. debut, opening a store in the heart of Manhattan's Soho neighborhood. The shop stocks over 200 teas from around the globe along with an extensive assortment of teapots, cups, sifters and other related items.

  • Report: Amazon to open store on Alibaba Tmall platform

    Seattle – If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Amazon.com is reportedly heeding that old saw with plans to open a store on the Tmall site of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Holding Group.

  • Nordstrom opens its second Canadian store

    Seattle -- Nordstrom on Friday opened the doors to its store at Rideau Centre in Ottawa, Ontario. The 157,000-sq.-ft. store is the retailer’s second location to date in Canada.

    "We are thrilled to welcome Nordstrom to Rideau Centre, which is a major milestone and component in the shopping centre's $360 million multi-year redevelopment project," said John Sullivan, president and CEO, The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited.
