  • Dunkin’ Donuts nabs McDonald’s veteran for executive role

    A longtime McDonald’s veteran has joined the fast-growing Dunkin’ Donuts.    Dunkin' Brands Group, parent company of Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, announced that David Hoffmann has been appointed president of Dunkin' Donuts U.S. and Canada, effective Oc. 3.   
  • Shakeup at American Apparel: CEO to step down

    Photo: Paula Schneider    The saga continues at American Apparel.   Paula Schneider plans to step down as CEO of the apparel retailer on Oct. 3, according to yahoo.com, which cited a report by Women’s Wear Daily. Schneider will be replaced by the company’s general counsel and chief administrative officer, Chelsea Grayson.  
  • Accenture to acquire consulting firm Kurt Salmon

    Accenture, a global professional services company, has entered into an agreement to acquire Kurt Salmon, a global strategy consulting firm focused on the retail industry.   The acquisition will expand Accenture Strategy’s capabilities in delivering strategy consulting services to retailers and private equity firms in a world disrupted by digital.
   
  • Report: 7-Eleven plans major expansion

    The parent company of 7-Eleven wants to more than double its store portfolio in the United States.   Seven-Eleven Japan Co. is looking to open thousands of new stores in the U.S., increasing its current total of approximately 8,500 locations to 20,000, The Japan Times reported.    
  • Magnolia Bakery, six others, open at New York outlet center

    Magnolia Bakery, the Greenwich Village shop that ignited the cupcake craze with its appearance on "Sex in the City," opens this week at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, New York.   This is the first storefront for Magnolia on the East Coast, aside from its original location. It maintains shops in Los Angeles, Chicago, Honolulu, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates.  
  • Shoptalk to launch in Europe

    Shoptalk Commerce, the organizer of U.S. retail and e-commerce event Shoptalk, announced the launch of Shoptalk Europe, to be held at The Bella Center in Copenhagen on October 9-11, 2017, following Shoptalk’s U.S. event, which will take place at the Aria in Las Vegas on March 19-22, 2017.  
  • Department store retailer in expansion mode

    Not all department stores are scaling back on their portfolio.    Von Maur Department Stores has opened its third location in the state of Georgia, a 165,000-sq.-ft. store at the Mall of Georgia in Buford.  
  • Eataly entering new market

    Eataly is taking its Italian food marketplace format to Canada.   The company announced plans to open its first Canadian location in early 2019, as an anchor tenant of the newly renovated Manulife Centre in Toronto.   Eataly, which combines food markets, restaurants, and eateries, will span three stories for a total space of 50,000 sq. ft.
