  • La Prairie to expand on Fifth Avenue

    New York City -- High-end Swiss cosmetic retailer La Prairie will expand its Fifth Avenue location, between 53rd and 54th Streets.

    According to its real estate representative Cushman & Wakefield, La Prairie will expand and occupy an additional 9,400 sq. ft. and the entire 11th floor of its existing building. The company also occupies the entire 13th and 14th floors.

    La Prairie will occupy a total of 22,110 sq. ft. in the 26-story building.

  • Long-time Staples exec promoted to CFO

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Staples has promoted Christine Komola to CFO effective Feb. 1, 2012. She will report to John Mahoney, Staples’ vice chairman. The responsibilities of the CFO will transition to Komola the next year.

  • Leonard Green raising $5 billion in private equity

    Los Angeles -- A Tuesday report by CNN Money, citing a regulatory filing, said that private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners is raising $5 billion for its sixth private equity fund.

    Leonard Green’s current retail portfolio includes Sports Authority, Neiman Marcus and Whole Foods, with plans underway to add BJ's Wholesale Club to its holdings.

    According to the report, the SEC filing does not confirm that the firm has closed on any money as of yet.
     

  • ODP fires international division head for improper relationship

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot has fired the president of its international business for "having an improper relationship."

    Charlie Brown, president of the international division, has left the organization, effective Monday, the company announced in a press release.

  • Family Dollar appoints longtime CVS executive as president and COO

    Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores said Tuesday that it has named longtime CVS/pharmacy executive Mike Bloom as its new president and COO to replace the departing R. James Kelly, who announced his retirement on Tuesday after 15 years with the company. Kelly will serve as vice chairman for the next six months to assist with the transition.

    Bloom, formerly executive VP – merchandising, supply chain, marketing and advertising for CVS Caremark, will assume the position of president/COO.

  • Ex-Carter’s exec charged with fraud

    Atlanta -- U.S. prosecutors have charged former Carter’s senior VP Joseph Elles with securities fraud, according to a report by the Associated Press.

    Elles has been accused of lying about the company's financial situation and then selling shares of its stock when the price was artificially inflated.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods opening stores in New York and Georgia

    Pittsburgh -- Dick’s Sporting Goods announced it is opening two stores this week, in Yonkers, N.Y., and Norcross, Ga.

    The Yonkers location will be the retailer's 32nd store in the state of New York and their 458th nationwide. The Norcross location will be the retailer's fifteenth store in the state of Georgia and their 459th nationwide.
